    It is a difficult concept.

Also, we Trek fans do not have a sense of humor we are aware of.

I'm very aware of my sense of humor, it's just that nobody else appreciates it. :nyah:

99% sure it was a placeholder not swapped out. Concept art for the sets has crew in ST'09 uniforms so they were using those movies as a basis until new stuff was designed and finalised.

    Or it's just fun.

I know, we don't do fun here but I've heard of the concept.

I'm pretty sure the Discoprise and the TOS Constellation feature in historical plaques at Starfleet academy in the Picard S2 season opener, so we're in that universe now. To help keep my sanity and both ship versions I'm fond of canon, I've entertained the possibility that Naval Construction Contract 1701 may have involved TWO separate hulls for whatever rationale I've yet to cook up.
The "mk I" launches in 2245 under the command of Robert April. This would be "The Cage" pilot version, resplendent with bussard spikes and oversize bridge dome and deflector dish. Pike takes command before the events on Talos IV. This ship is then mothballed and the crew is rolled over into the "mk II" Discoprise. The mk I then returns to active duty after a prolonged refit program in "Bonhomme Richard" configuration as we know it in TOS. I even double down on this and posit that it's the mk II that returns as the TMP refit.
I've used a similar idea to justify what is obviously the Probert version of the Enterprise C being part of the wall ship display on the Enterprise D. If the original 1701C was destroyed in 2344, and the Galaxy class wasn't in service before the late 2350s at the earliest, then we need a ship to fly the flag in the intervening years, unless we assume a "too soon" tribute gap for the fallen ship and crew.

Ok then...let the vitriol and dismissive comments begin.

I prefer the idea that the Constellation is a different class than the Constitution and resembles the TOS Enterprise. The real Enterprise looked like it does in Disco and SNW.

Perhaps when they made the TV show about the Enterprises 5 year mission they could only get an old "Constellation" class ship to represent the Big E, and assumed the viewers wouldn't notice!

Here's my head canon for why the Discoprise looks different to the SNWprise, which looks different to the TOSprise: refits. Lots of refits.

And the reason why the Enterprise C doesn't match the ship on the Observation Lounge wall: also a refit.

The Defiant is 200% larger than it was last episode? Refit.

Deflector dish too small in FC? That was a refit.

Discovery shot a torpedo out of its nacelle? Believe it or not, refit.

Fair enough, though I didn't think there was much left of the 1701C after the battle of Narendra III to refit, and what was got captured by the romulans. The fact that both the TOS and TMP versions of the 1701 show up on the Ent D obs lounge display can be taken as a small inference that they were possibly separate ships, but a refit-fest of one ship is probably the best fit from an Occam's razor perspective.

I would think it's obvious the refit Constitution in the observation lounge is meant to be the 1701-A.

Then why would you say this Trek ship designer has "no idea what he’s talking about" when he talks about Trek ship design?

Flimsy looking structures are futuristic. Bulky looking ones, perhaps even looking like today's metal and everyday construction materials, are not.

What people above said. Going through just the Enterprises from TOS-ENT, we had thin (TOS), partially thicker (TMP), thin (-B), a bit thicker (C-E). Then the J (by Doug) was very flimsy on purpose because of the monkey brain argument. The most flimsy ships ever gotta be the Klingon D7 and qItI'nga' though. Why would a warrior culture put the weakest, thinnest, flimsiest point right behind the command module and extend the insanely thin neck as long as they did, if the materials aren't futuristically sturdy? The neck got thicker on the BoP, vor'cha and negh'var though.

In an age where technological achievements like starships are possible, small changes to pylons and bridge modules strike me as very minor things to achieve, for whatever reason.

Must have missed that memo when I went to science fiction writing class.

It's obvious if your head isn't up your butt. I was wondering what that smell was and why the room was so dark. :D

You should've gone to science fiction concept art class instead!

Because he is too slavish to the TOS aesthetic. It does not fit in with the rest of the franchise.

Only the Constellation display was made. The Enterprise only appeared on an early piece of concept art of the displays.
