It was a side joke, not supposed to be part of the greater narrative.

What I'm most concerned about is:

Why is the Enterprise flying upside down?!?

It's space. Technically, there is no upside down.

See, that’s actually the opposite of one of my big nitpicks about most space battles in Trek (and Star Wars, and most space sci-fi franchises), there is no upside down in space.

Why can't it be both, and how are we supposed to know? Something being funny doesn't automatically mean that we're supposed to disregard it.

Well, that's why how it plays out would be more of interest. We don't even know the prime cause yet are assuming same time travel rules work. Seems backwards to me, like an Enterprise flying upside down ;)

Sometimes you just intuit these things. Two things happen that are at odds with each other, one seems serious and connected to the larger story, the other is funny and dropped immediately afterward.

I think the season will end with future Guinan remembering these events.

If Jurati ends up getting assimilated in 2024 and spends the next 375 years as a pet of the Borg Queen, I imagine it would lead to quite a different timeline. So I don't think the timeline shenanigans will be over at the end of the season and I think the "Prime" universe will have a somewhat different shape when all is said and done.

Jurati is most likely the Queen we see in Episode 1.

    Season 3
Also the Stargazer is still in Season 3. They're currently filming on the bridge according to Drexler.

So I'm pretty sure the timeline will be fixed by the end of the Season.

Agreed. Matalas did an amazing job with 12 MONKEYS, so I'm willing to let the season play out and see what happens.

This is one thing about season arcs today... there are no episodes that can stand on their own. They HAVE to be part of a bigger whole. Many episodes just bleed together. It can be tiresome.

I'm not sure it makes sense to think in terms of alternate timelines. Alternates caused by time travel don't seem to be real in any meaningful sense. Certainly none of the characters have ever thought that "what we do in the past doesn't matter, because our own timeline will still exist." Picard & co. aren't just trying to get home, they're trying to make sure that home actually will come to exist.

As for whether it's too late, Trek time travel seems to work on the principle that close enough is good enough. As long as Sisko was close enough to being Gabriel Bell, history ended up more-or-less identical when they got back to the future. The Enterprise-C was destroyed differently, with a different crew, but still, close enough for things to go on the way they were before. (Although Romulan history was a bit different.)

As troublesome aa time travel is, it did do the universe one huge favor.

It brought back tribbles from extinction. The universe is cuter now that they returned.

There's a huge gorilla in the room that folks are ignoring with the Time Travel aspects of this season.

Q created this particular universe/timeline at the moment the Stargazer exploded in Episode One.
So anything that seems off, can most assuredly be due to and/or blamed on his tampering.

Also, now that we've seen that he has lost his powers, all bets are off as too whether his expected outcome will happen the way he planed.

We are not ignoring it. I said in post #167 that this was different from normal time travel because Q was orchestrating it. I added that, seeing Q has lost his power someone other may be manipulating him.

The fan reaction to this would resemble stepping on a cat.

They barely coped in 2009, and that wasn't their sacred prime universe.

I don’t think the timeline will be significantly reshaped, but the outcome of the Borg encounter certainly will.

Going forward I wouldn’t be hugely surprised if there are thoughts around some kind of Federation Time Cops show on the back burner. Obviously Enterprise set up the Temporal Cold War and then Discovery brought back the idea of active Temporal Wars which caused chaos until time travel was ultimately banned. That’s quite an intriguing concept.

But perhaps, like the Time War in Doctor Who, it’s better remaining a concept than being explored in depth.

This fits well with the whole thing about "making big changes to the Trek universe in season 3", as Matalas (I think it was him?) has stated. I know, they also said that seasons 2 and 3 aren't connected to each other in an overtly direct way, but that doesn't mean that they can't somehow reference possible timeline changes that happened in season 2 (I think they were more referring to the fact that season 3 has a different main plot than season 2).

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
Dr Manhattan (Blue naked guy) from Watchmen was aware of every moment of his life, always, but just because he knew a moment was coming, he couldn't skip any of it, because "Every one has been the Scarecrow".

Either Q is like that, or something weird is happening.

Q can't be responsible for splitting the time line because he has no powers by the time it splits, which is something he should already know as he's screaming at Picard in episode 2 about penance.
