I read a story about his passing just a few minutes ago. It saddened me more than I expected.
Hollywood, and the VFX industry as a whole, just lost a legend.

    RIP

Moving on to the next chapter. His was a name as valued and prominent in making the unreal seem real as anyone in the business. Very diverse approach to EFX work.

If this had happened this Sunday, I would have found it especially chilling. For it was on February 13, 1977, 45 years ago AND also falling on a Sunday that I had my first chance to see 2001: a Space Odyssey. It was also the day my father died.

I try to watch the movie the day before Valentine's each year in remembrance of my father. This time, it will have extra significance.

Damn, that makes me very sad. I loved his upgrade to the TMP refit - a timeless design that inspired thousands of fans and artists. The man (IMO) was a freakin' genius. Very sad... :(
