To each his own I guess. I don't like the way they splintered the cast and have an anomaly of the week as the big bad. And I especially don't like how they started by blowing up a home planet because it feels like a contrived way to disrupt a character. Not that it's without its high points, like Grey, or Tilly's version of Lower Decks and Good Shepherd. Just the anomaly story is blah and there's no cohesive direction.
I was in elementary school at the time... oh my god, I never would've thought something would make me feel so old and so young at the same time
Cock of Doom. It goes around the galaxy spreading lies about how Discovery has been mothballed and Burnham sacked.
Wow, this thread made me realize the last fifth season of a Trek show was Voyager's during the 1998-1999 TV season. It ended right around the same time Phantom Menace was released in theatres. Time truly is the fire in which we burn.
Don't count on this season 5 just yet. When they find out the internet is angry about it they will likely reverse that choice and finally give into the fans and give them what they really want. The season 5 they really want! A Many Cotto ran Season 5 of Enterprise. Trip back from the dead and Shran all aboard now as a regular.
The last time we had a Season 5 of Star Trek was 1998-1999? I was just starting High School. Dang I feel old.
We're all old. Let's hope Prodigy gets some of the young 'uns watching too. So we're not The Last Generation.
Being serious I think I kind of expect this to be the shows final season for good. Remember how the TOS was about the crew being on a 5 year mission. I wonder if CBS has something like that in mind with it's shows. Get a good 5 years out of them if you can. Then end it at time when expenses go up such as actors salaries. The show has also sprung basically 3 spin-offs if you count the Academy show. What's left to do with it? Also wasn't Fullers initial idea for the show to last 5 years after it's various time jumps. I could see them then following this up with a movie that you can only watch on Paramount Plus. Eventually I think they will do another show centered around the Enterprise in this time period which is why they have not shown it so far. Hell they could use next season and the Academy series to build that up as well. Maybe Season 5 will be about Burnham and the crew dealing with a Ben Maxwell renegade Captain who is in charge of the Enterprise. Eventually he is stopped but that means a new crew will be needed and maybe one is a regular or semi-regular and another is a cadet on the Academy show.
