    Detmer and Owosekun are back!

Looks like Book was using the spore drive station, when something happens to him.

I've wanted to buy a projector since 1999 (but there was no way I would've been able to afford one in those days), three years ago I almost did. This past summer, I finally did. Now I have my computer hooked directly into the projector (before I'd only hooked it up to the Blu-Ray player) and so...

... for the first time, I'm about to watch a brand-new episode of Star Trek: Discovery on a projector as if I was going to the movies. Damn, it feels good to finally be able to type that.

They just named dropped enterprise. Which means there is a enterprise in the 32nd century.

Did Saru just say Enterprise? LoL!
They could have built that up but no. Typical Discovery.
At least the shuttlebay door is closed this week.

I think this is the first time I'm giving an episode a 10 since "The Hope is You 1". That episode was sensational. The bridge crew got a lot to do, this episode featured the actual ship quite a bit, and I really appreciated that Grey got to do something other than being Adira's boyfriend. I also am finding Zora a really interesting character now, slowly evolving and getting us closer to Calypso. I also really appreciated Owo, Book, Burnaham, and Suru's backstories getting a little fleshed out. Also, the song was beautiful.

It’s from outside the barrier you say? Well we know who the villain is now. It’s 0. :)
I can’t say I’m impressed with 32nd technology. It seems less advanced than 24th century.

How are they’re fires and sparks if there is no life support? I mean I know there would be some oxygen left but that that would be used up rather quickly.

I REALLY liked that episode. Zora seems to be the new Data. Also, the DMA, is from outside the galaxy. New race?

More likely, the reference was to the Enterprise-D, when it encountered a subspace rift in the episode "Force of Nature". I am less sure about the Voyager reference.

The reference which caught my attention was to the galactic barrier. It has not been spoken of since the third season of The Original Series.

Though I remain skeptical about the substitution of DOT-23s for probes, I am a little more open to it as Zora described them as a module. Module, to me, implies that they can perform far more functions than a standard repair drone. So, okay then.

As for the extragalactic creators of the DMA, I can only think of one possibility - the machine intelligence contacted at the end of Picard. The other known races would seem not to have the capability. Introduced in the original series, they would seem to be lacking the technological capability to develop the DMA. I am speaking about the Kelvans ("By Any Other Name"), the Makers ("I, Mudd"), and the species that created the planet killer ("The Doomsday Machine"). Berman Trek did not give us much information about what lay beyond the galaxy or what was happening there, with only a passing reference here and there, like a starship charting extragalactic space from "Aquiel" or the Enterprise-D on its joyride to the end of the universe from "Where No One Has Gone Before". It is exciting to see Discovery exploring what is there.

For myself, the pacing felt a little slower this time, which is fine.

While I wasn't rooting for Burnham to become captain, I must admit the show seems much more focused and TREK this season. I am really enjoying this so far.............

    Awesome episode..! Neat little bottle-show..!
Really loved the dynamics between Book and his father, and the whole tie-in later on with Saru about letting go of hatred was very well done. I really love who DSC finds the time to do these character moments with real substance, while still having a lot of action going on..!
Gray worked a little better for me this week. I see this going somewhere.
Zora was awesome..! This is gold..! That ending with her singing 'Stormy Weather' was incredibly well directed. Loved it..!
And I really like the mystery surrounding the DMA! Really hope that there will be a satisfying pay off..!
Overall, I think there has never been a better start to a season in Trek. There is no series that I look foreward to as much as I do with DSC. I look at the running time sometimes while watching, hoping there are still many, many minutes left, 'cause I know I'll have to wait a whole week before I can continue. No other series does that for me..!

I really liked the fact that the rest of the crew was being used. It finally felt like a typical Star Trek ensemble cast.

Everybody got something to contribute, which is a nice change of pace.

I find it interesting that now, inside the Subspace rift that the DMA popped out of, resembled The Void (Region) in the amount of emptiness and nothing-ness, + "The Void" (Anomaly). in that it's a finite sized space, that seemed to be slowly enclosing / shrinking, as if Subspace was filling itself back up.

Or similar in analogy to the Tide Waters rising, to fill up the giant Void tunnel that was forced apart via the DMA.

I also find it ironic that they used literal SONAR to get themselves out of the "Void-like" subspace rift.

Is it me, or does the hull of Discovery seem weaker than a traditional fixed hull.

We've seen armor / hull on specialty vessels that could dive through the corona of a Star in ST:ENT episode Cogenitor.

The Vissians had the Stratopod that can withstand 11,000° (I'm assuming that they're using Celsius).

I know Discovery's shields were depleted, but I guess they didn't upgrade the hull enough with enough ablative armor to withstand heat or they really do depend on Programmable Matter & Replicators to rapidly fix the hull.

I know our Star System is surrounded by a Wall of Plasma that is known as our "Heliopause" and can get as hot as ~ 49,426.667° C.
If our Star System has a "Wall of Fire" known as a "Heliopause"; I'm pretty sure most Star Systems has their own "Heliopause" / "Wall of Fire" that is filled with equally Hot Plasma.

It makes you wonder, how much Heat can the hull of a StarShip soak up when the Shields are down.

I do love the fact that they made good use of the Transporter Pattern Buffer and stored most of the crew into it while Michael wore the EV suit.

She definitely looked like she was wearing a Iron-man like EV suit (minus the Hot-Rod colors).

Also, the revelation that the Aliens must've passed through the outter Galactic Barrier is a nice call back to TOS era.

We haven't seen that area of space be referenced in a LONG time.

Makes you wonder if this seasons "Big Bad" will be a updated older Extra-Galactic alien species or a brand new alien species made for DISCO.

I’ll have more thoughts later, but the first thought in my head is that ‪‪I can’t wait for Zora and Burnham’s friendship to develop to the point where she feels comfortable calling her “Michael,” and my childhood loves of Trek and Knight Rider will essentially become one.
