Don't they have standardized Probes to launch now?

I know that during the TNG era, they always launched probes to evaluate things.

Why didn't StarFleet give Discovery all the latest generation probes to launch?

 

The DOT-23’s are 32nd Century tech, maybe one of their standard functions is to fill the same role that probes did previously.

 

Why would you fill your Repair Droid with sensors from a Probe?

 

It isn’t preposterous to consider that their use was expanded beyond repair to become multifunctional robots, especially with the advent of programmable matter making everything highly adaptable.

In the post-Burn environment ‪‪I would think consolidation of technology would be somewhat commonplace.
