My quietness is legendary at work and even with family. I also walk in quiet way, Which leads to a lot of people getting surprised. I blame it on my Ninja training. ;)

He was also a diagnostic engineer who never rose above the ranking of lieutenant and almost got kicked out of Starfleet multiple times and only didn't because Deanna Troi kept coming to bat for him.

Which was a very realistic portrayal of things.

He did make it to Commander in the Endgame alternate future.

He remained a Lieutenant even after the success of the Pathfinder Project so his career ladder seemed to consist of gaining the trust of fellow officers more than promotions.

I do wonder if that's Mary herself, or if her acting is that good. Has she played any serious or villainous parts?

    Interesting!

In potentially related news, I stumbled upon this recent Michelle Paradise interview before bed last night... and the interviewer opens rather intriguingly:

We could be mere days away from finding out if the character in question is Tilly! Which wouldn't by any means confirm she's moving on to another show or anything, but yeah. There's definitely a lot going on with her re: Starfleet Academy right now.

(And then there's the chance this is about another character, which sets my mind racing.)

My guess? It's another Airiam where something is going to happen to a minor side character Michelle Paradise thinks they've developed better then they have.

It's possible! Though I noticed in the Metacritic reviews that at least one person (can't recall who it was offhand) said something to the effect of the fandom drawing attention to how a beloved character's arc is handled. Which might just mean Gray?

I only mention it because the Forbes article author also seemed in-the-know and acted like it was a big deal. But hey, I'm sure some folks thought Airiam was a big deal.

The thing I appreciate about Tilly is that her character helps to show that you don't have to be the best, or even great, to be good.

IDK how they list her in the Star Trek Online video game in 2010. Some great proofreading on that site.

IMDb lists productions by initial release date.

For shows the individual episodes will have the year released.

Sure, but that one is listed as a single video game release, so I assumed it was a typo on the year.

If STO had expansions like WoW, it probably would have been a separate entry.
But IMDb doesn't list updated as separate productions.

Given how her mother was portrayed both in Tilly's recollections of her as well as in Short Treks and Una McCormack's tie-in novel as this overly strict parent who would always criticize everything her daughter does and makes her doubt all her life choices, I've always believed that her insistence on becoming the youngest Starfleet captain ever was never what Tilly actually wanted; she just wanted to prove herself to either her mother or her internalized voice of her. Captains are the poster children of Starfleet (like Eddington once said, no one joins to be an ops division commander or a flag officer with a desk job) and if she could become one, maybe she could finally make her mom proud or silence that evil voice in the back of her head that kept telling her she is not good enough. It's not what she's best at, but that's what she needs to become to prove to her mother and/or the internalized critical maternal voice in her own head that joining Starfleet was the right decision. "Becoming the youngest captain ever" has always felt more like a mantra she kept telling herself to silence her doubts than an actual goal she set for herself, reality be damned.

Whether my assumptions are correct or not, I'm glad to see her starting to doubt if the command division is the best career path for her. It's not just about what she's good at or what's the best for her, I feel like she's finally starting to figure out what she herself wants. It's a very hard and scary thing to do and I hope she finds her answers sooner or later.
