Nah, just different. With laser projection the quality is approaching the old 70mm film, and it's clearly better than a standard screen. The old "liemax" distinction is no longer accurate imo.

Nope, it's coming January 12.
Disney+ has released a Coming in 2022 video, with footage from a whole bunch of the big shows and movies coming there next year, but I'm not sure if any of it is new.

 

Yeah, some movie called Encanto is the Christmas movie this year. Never heard of it but looking at pictures it just looks like your generic Disney cartoon.

 

Encanto is great, and definitely not a generic Disney cartoon. My mom and I saw it opening weekend, and we both really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

 

The footage from Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk are new for the public (they had trailers for a private event awhile back).

Big fat teases with She-Hulk. Give me Tatiana already! And Kamala dressed up as Captain Marvel is adorable!

Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean anything. And it definitely doesn't look like a "generic Disney cartoon."

I've heard nothing but great things about it and I can't wait to see it when I get the chance (I may have to wait for its arrival on Disney+).

 

I kind of wish Eternals was the December 25th movie, but January 12th isn't that long to wait.

As for Encanto, I was excited when I first heard about it. I usually like the main Disney animated movies, they have a much better track record then Pixar in recent years, and having the songs done by Lin-Manuel Miranda was a good sign (he did the songs for Moana, a great movie with songs which I generally absolutely loved). But the songs were put on youtube and, to me, they were universally awful. Then I read the plot synopsis, and lost all interest in watching the film. Bad music (at least what I consider bad music, having listened to the songs) and a bad plot aren't a good combination. At least Raya skipped the songs and just had a bad plot. Encanto, to me, is like Pixar's Onward in that its so unappealing that I'm not even going to bother to watch it on Disney+. It makes sense that its the Christmas D+ release, because even the poorly received Eternals is probably valuable enough to get its own release date, while Encanto is just something they can shove out along with a bunch of other stuff on Christmas.

 

Eternals was a damp squib, so I’m looking more forward to Encanto over Christmas than I would have been Eternals.

 

It has music by Lin Manuel Miranda. Nothing about that says generic.

 

I seem to have lost the link, but I read that Tim Allen will be making a Santa Clause sequel series for Disney Plus.

The trailer for Moon Knight premieres during Monday’s NFL Wild Card playoff game.

 

Encanto came out in theaters back in November, my mom and I saw it opening weekend, and it was great. It was the #18 movie worldwide last year, and it has a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 76/100 on Metacritic.

 

I actually got bored and watched Encanto about a week ago. It...was pretty damn good, honestly. Even its music grew on me when I gave it a chance, I've actually listened to it more then once after watching the movie. I'm still against rap in a Disney movie in general, but I guess LMM is good enough to get away with it (although the Moana soundtrack beats Encanto's in almost every way in my opinion). Encanto doesn't make a top favorite Disney spot for me, but its a more then solid film, and much better then Raya, which was a very annoying film.

Its still kind of surprising to me how much better Disney animated Films have been compared to Pixar the last few years, I honestly think they could just shut down Pixar at this point since Disney's main team does CG animated films a lot better then Pixar.

Eternals on the other hand I fucking loathed, it feels like it should have been the "dump to D+ early" movie.

 

My son on Tuesday evening, when big sister asked if they could watch Encanto:

“I don’t want to watch it. It looks boooooooring!”

My son, this morning:

“Can we watch Encanto?”

Me in reply:

“Again?! You’ve watched it three times this week.”

I'm still enjoy Pixar's stuff, but there has been a massive improvement in Disney Animation Studios in the last decade or so. There are quite few from the early to mid aughts that weren't that great, and I've still never seen Meet to Robinsons or Home on the Range.
