Finished watching theses. Like the Animatrix it's very hit and miss. My favorites were 'The Duel' (love the umbrella lightsabre) and 'The Ninth Jedi' but overall this just feels like nothing more than an experiment with no real value. I doubt I'll rewatch them again.

Incidentally, since this has whetted my appetite for offbeat Star Wars animation that doesn't quite mesh with canon, I've started watching (well, rewatching, I guess) the 1985 Droids cartoon. I only vaguely remember it from first run (not sure I saw all of it), and I've been curious for a while now. It's only 14 episodes, not that much longer than Visions, so I figured I might as well. Two episodes in, it's not great, but it's one of Paul Dini's early efforts as a writer and story editor, so I'm sticking around for that, at least. It's remarkably '80s-ish, with the synth music and Mohawk-ish haircuts on the characters, as opposed to the retro/nostalgic flavor (relative to release date) that the films had.

I will not be revisiting the Ewoks cartoon. The one thing I do remember from the original run was that I was always less interested in that one.

Yeah whilst I enjoyed them for the most part, I doubt I'll ever rewatch them.

What value is there in any media? There are very few things that I absolutely love that I rewatch. Does that decrease their value now? Curious philosophical question. :vulcan:

I believe the value is based on one's own personal view. If you rewatch it I would assume you like it or it resonated with you on some level. If you buy it as physical media then it might have even more significance. I will definitely try to rewatch something I like or at least plan to rewatch in the future. The more I like something probably the longer the gap because time changes me and I can see it with fresh eyes.

And if you don't rewatch it?

An interesting question. For me, there is the initial value of if I enjoyed it. Then, if I find value enough in it to share with others. Some media has value for me in that it changed me in some way or that when I think of it, I am reminded of something good.

Then there is re-experience value. As @Saul said, "time changes me and I can see it with fresh eyes." I'm finding that now with TOS. It's making me want to re-watch other shows I love and see how the experience is different (or not).

Then I don't like it or hate it. I'll never watch 'Godzilla Final Wars' again. I will never rewatch 'The Others' with Nicole Kidman again because I hated those movies. I might grudgingly rewatch 'Terminator Dark Fate' and 'The Predator' if they bring out new movies of each in future. I'll never rewatch Scott and Charlene get married again on the Australian drama 'Neighbors' because that's just too far in the past and also because it's the 523rd episode of a series which is now at the 8,715th episode.

Edit: There might be things that I think I don't need to rewatch even if I really liked them. I really enjoyed some shows but feel like I don't need to rewatch them again. Part of that is because there are other great shows I have yet to watch, such as 'The Wire'. I have to prioritize what I really want to watch again and what I want to remember fondly.

Interesting, and does bring me to my next point. I don't generally rewatch things because time is so limited. So, it's an interesting idea to me that value with the production is associated with how many times I rewatch something. My favorite film in the world is "The Ten Commandments" but I haven't watched it in a decade. But, it's still fresh in my mind.

I've been working my way through these off and on since they came out. So far I'm up to The Duel, and it was easily my least favorite so far. I watched the English version, and the dialogue was so bad, I don't think I would have even finished if it had been longer than it was.
I really enjoyed the other two, but I don't really remember enough specifics to say more than that.

What order are you watching them in? For me, "The Duel" shows up as the first episode, but you're saying you saw it third? I'm confused.

Yeah, that one was pretty bad. I liked how Allison Brie was really into it with her voice acting, and some of the visuals were pretty. But the plot was thin, the dialogue was atrocious and the overall execution was off.
I think the last one "Red something something" was also terrible.
"The Duel" and "The Elder" were the best. "The Ninth Jedi" was also fantastic.

I finally watched the first installment. I thought it was pretty good. I hope more of them will be similar in tone and aesthetics.

They're mostly quite different from each other in visual style and tone, as they're all from different directors and studios. Although a number of them do take a similar tack of telling traditionally Japanese-style stories in a Star Wars context.

Incidentally, I finally finished rewatching Star Wars: Droids. It wasn't very good, so I mostly just had it on once a day while I did the dishes, since I didn't feel the need to pay close attention to it. The most watchable episode, unsurprisingly, was the one scripted by Paul Dini.

In honor of Star Wars Day, I decided to go back to this, and watched The Village Bride this morning. It was really good, with a nice art style, and a good story.

Yeah that was one of the better ones. Though to this day I'm still not entirely sure what the deal was with the robotic high heels. I mean, I get that she probably had prosthetic legs thanks to a run-in with a Sith (probably Maul and/or Savage) that killed her Master, but . . . why high heels?! That doesn't seem terribly practical.

The stuff coming out about the second season, finally inspired me to go back and watch the rest of the first, so today I watched The Ninth Jedi. I really enjoyed, I liked the animation style, it had some cool action, and a pretty good story. I did not see the big twist towards twists towards the end coming, those both caught me pretty off guard.

The Ninth Jedi is arguably the best of the bunch. The only thing I wasn't a fan of is the whole "lightsabers are mood rings" of it all. Hell they even had that one supposed Sith go from red blade to light, just by getting him to calm down. That rather dramatically undervalued what it actually means to embrace either the dark or light. It shouldn't be that arbitrary.

Yeah, that was a bit of an odd way to approach that. I remember in an old EU game or book they had the Jedi broken down into different categories, with each color representing a different one. Have they done anything like that in the new canon?
