He also didn't land with his spacecraft which also violated the FAI rules. Vostok Cosmonauts had to parachute away. Gagarin bailed at 7000ft, landed far away from his space craft in a farm, walked up to a the frightened family and delivered what may be one of the greatest lines in history:

"Don’t be afraid, I am a Soviet citizen like you, who has descended from outer space and I must find a telephone!"

Sweet. Its shorter than the first trips video
I hope they release more. Shatner really soaked it all in. Kudos to him. He got to experience something special.

It's Disneyland for everyone else but Shatner is taking every second of the experience. He's like a kid on his first flight on a plane, just staring out the window. Surreal.

Maybe it wasn’t Shatner in space....Kevin Pollak might have jumped into the capsule first :

Exactly. He had this sense of wonder and contemplation. It was really cool to see him that way.

I'm really surprised startrek.com hasn't mentioned ANYTHING about this on their website! You'd think they'd be all over it!

This is pretty amazing........90 years old and complete childlike wonderment.......

I love Kirk........never been a Shatner fan, but I'm very happy for him and loved his reactions.

For all the years of enjoyment Shatner gave us this is a fitting reward.

When he first set out from Montreal as a young man and even as he played Kirk it’s safe to assume he never envisioned where he’d be now.

Shatner didn't just make love to the mountain way back then.......he also made love to space yesterday!

Anybody else feel emotional watching all this? It was a pity Bezos took a break from the circles of Hell to be there too but other than that it's been the best feel-good story in a long, long while.
