Serious (non-spoiler) question: I've been able to read just about everything from the "Relaunch Era" except for Architects of Infinity and To Lose the Earth. Is it critical that I read those before Moments Asunder? (By "critical," I mean "Will my enjoyment of either be adversely affected by reading them out of order?") Thanks in advance!

Dayton Ward includes a chronology of all major events from 2381 up to the last TNG book 'Collateral Damage' at the beginning of the novel.

I’ve not gotten Moments Asunder yet, but after reading To Lose the Earth many people expected a plot thread left dangling would be s driving force in the Coda storyline. And Architects of Infinity and To Lose the Earth are basically a duology so, based on this expectation, I would say read them first if possible. Just my guess.

Well, have you been a part of the pre-release discussion?

Um, did you read The Last Best Hope? It, The Dark Veil, and Rogue Elements explicitly set up the main story of Picard in the incompatible overlapping timeframe of the novels.

Perhaps my phrasing of that didn’t convey my meaning well. I meant it in the same way as this lune of events…

The Enterprise-C disappears during battle with the Romulans…The Federation and Klingon Empire engage in twenty years of war…Tasha Yar and the Enterprise-C travel back in time…Sela is born…The events of TNG take place.

Captain Janeway and Voyager play no part in the first book. In fact, they may play no part at all, considering the one sentence mention of their ultimate fate.

I am intrigued, but I am also kind of behind in my reading for Trek. I did read up to The Fall and kind of stopped with everything. I really need to go back and play catch up... or can I read Coda without reading the other books?

    - Me too. I want to know if there's any joy or uplifted spirits or wonder in this Coda trilogy, because the blurbs seem to be all about the doom & gloom. I don't want to read a grim, unrelenting descent into misery and hopelessness, because there's enough of that in real life.
I mean, I imagine that there'll be slivers (at least) of hope throughout this novel (and the other two) as that's one of the things that our Starfleet heroes are all about, but I don't think I'll be able to get through one book, nevermind three, if it's mainly all death, despair and destruction with only the faintest hint of hope and joy woven through. I guess I want to know if there's a happy ending for most of the characters we've come to admire (I'm not so naive as to expect all of them to make it to the end, though - at least not in one piece or as the same person).

I haven't ordered Coda as I'm waiting for spoilers so I know whether to put myself through the wringer or not (so I suppose I'll have to wait until the last book is out and has been discussed here - spoilers and all! ;))

I admit I hope for something lighter than Destiny and I loved Destiny.

    Not...DOOM.

I am far too happy about the fact Wesley plays a major role in this.

I'd say you don't have to read them first, but there are small appearances by characters who were with the Project Full Circle fleet up to the point you're at in the Voyager series. Still very enjoyable, just might leave you with the small question "why is X on Earth now?"
