Yep. And moreover there's no single model for good comedy. Good character humor is a fine thing, but you don't make Airplane! with it and that kind of machine gun gaggery wouldn't work in a Mel Brooks film. Buster Keaton comedies are a scream but they hinge entirely on visual action and impeccable timing.

And then you have Woody Allen whose comedy depends largely on context, situation, relationships between characters and the intricacies of language between grown adults.

Furthermore, Chuck Jones could never have pulled off the hilarious insanity of Clampett's The Great Piggybank Robbery, or the brilliant simplicity of Avery's Bad Luck Blackie. Thank goodness not every theatrical cartoon director of the period followed the same formula.

So... we all cool with swapping out Beverly what's-her-name (Lea Thompson in the movie) with Darcy whenever Howard the Duck comes to Disney+? Or maybe to Adult Swim?

    'Kay, just checking.

The stones didn't work within the confines of the TVA. If the stones only worked in their native reality, then the Avengers plan in Endgame would have never worked.

Switzler. I assume she has the same name as the comics character, as I never saw the movie.
Good lord, I pulled that name out of a forty plus year old memory.

Comedy is in the eye of the beer holder

Found it funny but got turned off by Thor's dudeness after a few minutes.

An amusing thought: Since Norse myth is supposedly inspired by the actual Asgardians, does that mean Norse myth exists in a very different form in this reality? Do they have centuries-old stories of Loki the Frost Giant prince instead of Loki the trickster god of Asgard? And think of all the ways that could change human cultures or history...

If you think about it, this episode had the earliest divergence by far.

I only accept this idea if Lea Thompson is directing (which she has expressed interest in doing several times).

Now that's a very interesting thought experiment, especially since I've been reading a lot of Norse mythology and different takes on it (such as The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec).

NGL, that was a riot. Just the kind of thing these "What If's" are perfect for.

Another Howard The Duck appearance. I hope he has more to do in later installments, or they do a series for him. HE was always the strangest Marvel character.

I did like The Howard the Duck stuff and getting married to Darcy. Also was it Thor who straightened the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Found that to be funny.

I thought that was a hoot from start to finish (maybe excluding the downer ending) Hemsworth was great but Dennings was the true star of this, Darcy (Mrs The Duck) was just hilarious all the way through. After the previous few it was nice to have some fun. As for humour, well as Saavik says, it's a difficult concept, it is not logical :p

    Just rewatched it. Still hilarious.

Also, something I didn't notice before about the ending: Ultron has the Infinity Stones.

Hey, don't forget - The Three Stooges :)

My one complaint: They didn't have Frigga go off on Thor. I was expecting a really 'grab him by the ear and haul him back to Asgard...and then Odin wakes up and really lets them BOTH have it' - moment.

But no: They had to end on a more serious note.

(As for Darcy: Anyone who knows how trope-ish some comedy beats are - you KNEW as soon as she denigrated Howard, while in Vegas, of course they'd end up in a drive through Vegas Chapel married by Elvis.:techman:)

I gotta say Seth Green is not what I hear in my head when I imagine what Howard would sound like. I think more of a rough voice, maybe like a 1940s type.

Yeah, based on what I remember from his comics appearances, Danny DeVito as Louie on Taxi comes to mind for a proper voice and attitude . But Seth doesn't sound like Scott Evil, so he's doing OK.

Wasn't Howard the Duck in Penthouse magazine? "Gallopin' Gonads" was his, no?

I want some of whatever the creators of this episode were having.

I actually tried figuring out how the Skrulls and Grandmaster and Nebula got there for a few minutes. Then I realized that THIS Thor has a rep and folks just follow. *Then* I realized it didn't matter. :guffaw:I laughed my ass off all the way through until... yeah, you know where.

Was that the one with the all white panel of various white-costumed characters in a snowstorm? That's the only issue I've ever seen and I loved it.

HELLS YES! Lea can direct and all will be well in the world. Kat is just awesome. And if the 86 movie did anything good, it let me know the character existed!

I am one of the apparently rare females who likes the Stooges.

Did you see Frigga's face? She totally wasn't buying it. I have seen that face on many moms who know they *should* kick asses, but just have to laugh. I loved how EVERYONE was terrified of her coming!

Loki was also super funny - I had to wonder if he'd have been happier growing up with his own people.

I deeply enjoyed watching Captain Marvel and Thor fight. :techman:

Did anyone else catch an Elvis saying "Holy Moley"?

Thor and Jane at the end was so sweet....

    AND THEN!

I was literally yelling WHAT THE FUCK multiple times.:eek::eek:
