And it's got Hemsworth, Portman, Dennings, Wahtiti AND Goldblum all reprising their roles. A great appetizer for Love and Thunder!

 

If you’re not well and you sign a multi year contract, Disney have a right to know. I mean they are investing in him.

The Portman voice sounded weird. I would have just got the actress who voiced Padme in the Clone Wars.

Somehow, I doubt Disney will be hurting for money.

A person doesn't deserve to have their employment opportunities curtailed because of health factors outside their control.

 

Whether Disney technically would have the right to know or not literally doesn't matter. Boseman didn't tell them. The end.

 

I’m glad Boseman kept it to himself because he was great in the role. I don’t really care if that screwed up with what Marvel/Kevin Feige originally planned, because they get paid enough to be creative and come up with a new direction. I don’t know what that means for WAKANDA FOREVER, we’ll see.

After the dourness of the last few episodes, it was refreshing to watch a more laidback and fun story this time around (aside from the ending which I'll get to later). While the episode was called "What If...Thor were an only child?," I think a better name would be "What If...Captain Marvel and Thor duked it out across the entire Earth?" I really enjoyed watching those two very powerful being trade blows on an almost equal measure...although I bet Thor wouldn't do quite as well if he didn't have Mjolnir.

As alluded by the opening quote, as much fun as it was to watch party Thor and his ever-growing band of partiers wreck havoc across the globe, the true highlight of this episode for me was the ongoing commentary by Darcy. Like I said with WandaVision, I'm so very happy to have Kat Dennings back in the MCU. Her snark has been greatly missed and it was the perfect fit for this episode. It's just a shame she apparently isn't in Love and Thunder.

I was a little surprised by the number of cameos throughout the episode. I knew Korg, the Grandmaster, and Sif were going to be in this one, but I hadn't expected to see Nebula and Surtur to also crash the party, too, and both Karen Gillan and Clancy Brown sounded like they were having a lot of fun. I was also taken surprise by proper frost giant Loki but I loved seeing that very different path for him. Less surprising was Howard the Duck...and I was greatly amused how he and Darcy got married in Vegas. Now that's a spin-off I would love to watch. Call it The Snark of Darcy and Howard.

I also didn't expect to see the core group of SHIELD agents to show up, even if the focus was mostly on Hill after Fury was accidently put into a coma by Korg. I loved seeing Hill take charge of this mission and handle each situation with her normal no-nonsense attitude. I also loved seeing Rumlow's overeagerness to nuke something...anything!

This episode was so much fun from beginning to end so I don't know why it ended on such a weird offbeat note with...Vision wearing an Ultron suit and all of the Infinity Stones? I'm not entirely sure how that divergence arose as a result of Thor's partying ways, nor how that would develop so quickly during the week or so covering the time period of Thor. I would love to see that story in an actual episode...and perhaps that might actually be the next episode? There are only two episodes left and there were several clips from the trailers that showed Ultron bots in action.

 

This was a rather pointless bit of fluff that didn't do much for me. The premise is rather implausible and thin. I mean, Thor already pretty much was an irresponsible, selfish jerk when we first met him in the main timeline. That was the whole point of the first movie, that he needed to learn responsibility. So how exactly did Loki not being his brother "change" him?

Also, how does Heimdall not know Thor and his gang are on Midgard? How did they even get there if Heimdall didn't send them? And isn't it an overreaction to call in Captain Marvel because of a party invasion? Why does it take so long for Frigga to get to Earth? How is Drax okay with attending a party with Thanos's daughter? Not to mention apparently having no problem with figurative language? Also, how does the Vision exist if the Avengers were never formed and Thor never contributed to his creation? When does this even take place in the timeline? This is all just too random and nonsensical. It's more What the...? than What If...?

The main virtue is that it got so many of the original actors to participate (even Clancy Brown!). Nice that Natalie Portman is among them, given how she was left out of the movies for a while. Although the character design and animation style totally failed to capture her beauty, and didn't even resemble her that much.

 

That's probably a version of Ultron Prime. Remember Vision was originally built to be Ultron's body. And I agree that scene couldn't possibly result from this which is why I'm betting this leads to the long rumored multi verse team up. Next episode will be What If Ultron Won? And the answer will be one universe isn't enough for him, so he's invading all the different universes we've seen and a bunch of our former main characters will have to team up to stop him.

 

Rather silly episode. Felt like a Rick and Morty premise of having aliens destroy a planet by having massive out of control parties. Captain Marvel was more likeable here than in the MCU.
The ending was rather random. I don’t see how Ultron came to be in their universe. Perhaps he’s from another

 

Maybe Stark and Banner created Ultron and Vision elsewhere. I mean Iron Man should already exist and so should Hulk but they didn't show up. Must be a bunch of drama happening or have happened elsewhere.

 

Yup, that makes sense. Thanks for the reminder that Vision's body was originally created for Ultron.

 

I enjoyed it for what it was, a silly piece of fun, and just when the party schtick was wearing out its welcome Captain Marvel comes in to poop the party (which will probably bring more ire/comment from some parts of the internet) and switch things up a bit. They really make Marvel look cosmic level. Don't make too much noise in Hill's neighborhood, you'll regret it! I think Hemsworth is what really pulls it together bringing the necessary charm though I liked Giant Loki as well.

 

Managed to make it to around 20 minutes ( with effort) and turned it off.. damn, what a piece of crap.

Premise has nothing to do with the "plot" of the episode, Loki had barely anything to do with Thor's change of heart in the movie that turned him from selfish prick to actual hero ( maybe because he sent the Destroyer to kill Thor and he wants to sacrifice himself to protect others as the final step of his change but the majority of it happened without Loki's influence).

It's pointless joke after joke, somehow i must have missed how suddenly the Guardians and Skrull joined the party and then we get Icegiant Loki, Danvers gets called in to beat Thor up - it's just a huge mess of an episode without anything to say or any plot whatsoever. if this weren't an animated episode it would have been Marvel's first dud ( and this from someone who doesn't like the Thor movies in general).

Damn waste of 20 minutes i spent on the episode.

 

I thought this was great. A refreshing change from seeing Heroes get killed, turned into zombies and outwitted at every corner. I loved seeing Thor and Captain Marvel fight which was something I was interested in seeing since they laid eyes on each other in Endgame, this was Death Battle without the death. Fun episode, the series needed it.

 

Loved this one. Sorely tempted to watch it again soon. So many great bits and cameo. Who cares if it's a "just" a goofy comedy episode? To my mind there's nothing "just" about inspired silliness.

Thor "fixing" the Leaning Tower. Etc.

And, honestly, the twist that, while Carol is punching Thor all over the planet (with conveniently labeled countries), and SHIELD is going all Defcon 1, Jane saves the day by (gasp!) ratting out Thor to his mom was hilarious.

And, of course, generous quantities of Darcy snark is never a bad thing.

 

I didn't see any inspired silliness; that implies an actual good, clever idea, whereas this was just carelessly throwing stuff together without any coherence. It was by-the-numbers, meh-whatever silliness. Good comedy is driven by believable characters who have empathetic and relatable motives even when their context and their actions are ridiculous. But the characterizations here made little sense. The characters didn't react in ways that grew organically out of their personalities and goals; they just did whatever arbitrary, out-of-character thing the writers thought would make a silly gag.

One of its few redeeming qualities.

This was lots of fun. The ending did feel kinda WTF but if it's related to what happens next episode I'm fine with it.
