I hope not. With all due respect to gamers I would hate that idea as much as I hated them tying in a video game to the sequels. Who the hell wants to play a video game so they can fully understand what's going on in a movie? No matter what age you are you can play the movie at any time and any place but with a game you have to have the right console or game which may be no longer on sale and then sit down for a couple of hours to unlock some piece of fiction that is relevant to a movie you wanted to watch. Just keep those things separate.

All the cutscenes were on the DVDs. It’s not like it was vital to the story. Just some additional stuff

Shouldn't have to do that. That's not the original medium that story was presented and, even if it was, there shouldn't be outside material that viewers should be aware of before heading into the next film in a series.

And I say that as someone who wishes there was more incorporation of the Star Trek novels with the shows and films.

Anything that is relevant is presented in the movie itself, generally speaking. Extra material is just for uber-fans who want more backstory.

Right, I'm fine with that. But if it's just "Morpheus is dead" with no explanation as to why ("It's covered in the video game!"), then that's a problem.

Am I missing something? Is that what Warchosky said or the studio said--that we will not get an explanation in the film? Or is it just fan speculation?

Watching Japanese TV last night and they describe this movie as a continuation from the first movie. I guess they are basing that on the synopsis or how the movie is being promoted.

Well it is. Reloaded and Revolutions were also continuations from the first movie

Given the shots of Neo outside the Matrix with scarred eyes I’m guessing the sequels are still canon. The look of the Matrix seems consistent with the ending as well.

I would agree with the idea that they still include the sequels as part of contnuity, but as the original was most loved, this will go for maximum nostalgia. This wouldn't be much different that nuTrek saying they are continuing the legacy of TOS. It doesn't negate what came after...just emphasizing what intereste dmany in TOS to begin with.

I am hoping that "new Morpheus" is Laurence FIshbourne, only utulizing the "residual self image" he talked about in the original movie... in that you could theoretically change your appearance base don what YOU want to happen in the Matrix.

I had an idea in my head of a Matrix prequel where is first recruited by the man he spoke of to Neo who had begun freeing people from the Matrix. It looks like a much younger version of a crewmate. But when that crewmate dies, we find out that the "old man" actually "borrowed" that form because he actually "idealized" that guy (at least in terms of character and hope... the old man had a lot of fear and self-doubt, which prevented him from accomplishing what Neo did).

If i saw it correctly, it seemed liek Neo saw a very old verison of himself in a mirror. I am hoping a lot of time has passed, so that we WILL see Laurence FIshbourne, but now in the role of the councilor ((the one that seemed to be his mentor in the sequels)

The Matrix: Revolutions, a horrible movie BTW, did depict the Oracle in another form, and I know the 1st actress passed away during filming both movies, its possible Morpheus had a contingency plan in case he was compromised in or out of The Matrix.

If anything it's nice to have a Matrix movie again where you don't understand what's going on. I remember that being one of the highlights of the first one for me - having to watch the film to understand the world we're being thrust into.

    ^^^ I also agree!

I remember word-of-mouth buzz about the trailer for the first Matrix movie, prior to actually viewing it, by an excited friend of mine who exclaimed that it was seemingly about mafia / assassins warring in a hidden world that was actually underwater (my friend having seen the bullet-time sequence in the trailer)…
    :lol::guffaw::rommie:

So I was actually pleasantly surprised when I saw the trailer for myself and then the movie itself - which was nothing like my friend described!

Hugh Grant talking about his characters on Norton just before the film came out is one of the funniest moments in that show.
