After going through TNG,DS9,VOY and ENT. I have decided to rewatch Farscape. My third time through. Saw the First airing. Second time with my DVDS and now again with my DVDs. It's been about 11 or 12 years since I have seen them. This show had a great mix of drama, comedy and action. The camaraderie/bond and turmoil between the main characters was also well done onthis show.
So far about 6 eps through the first season and loving every minute of it. Would love to see a mini series revival.

At a convention a few Novembers ago, right before the pandemic hit, Rockne O'Bannon told a crowd of FS fans that he was still looking for ways to revive FS.

Yeah, he's been saying that for years now. I keep hoping something will happen but I've become increasingly doubtful. :(

I'm due for another rewatch myself. I've seen the whole series at least half a dozen times now.

This reminds me, I need to get back to my rewatch. I've working my way through it for a 3rd or 4th time the last few months, l'm up to season 4 so far. I'm also including the post-P.K. Wars comics this time around. I've only read the first miniseries before, but a few months ago I found a digital omnibus with all of the miniseries and the first one or two arcs of the ongoing series, so I'm hoping to get through the whole series this time.

    Still a great show.

I am actually half way through my first re-watch of the series since it first aired. I missed a lot of season 2 the first time around because it was aired on Saturday nights and I was in my twenties and spent a lot of weekends at the beach.

I re-watched it all last year during a local lockdown.

I found the first half of season one to be really bad. The acting was all about yelling and mindless conflict. Of course I get that the idea was they didn't know or trust each other, but there was nothing in that first half that appealed to me.

Back in the day, I started watching around mid-season two and fell in love with it. If I'd started watching from the beginning there would never have been a second date. In saying this, I actually did fall in love with the show and it's one of the best sci-fi shows I've followed. John and D'argo, and John and Aeryn were each one of the most well developed, addictive, and satisfying relationships I've every watched. Anything about Scorpius is unparalleled as a villain in any show or movie I've ever seen. And though I'm not mentioning all the characters, they were totally fleshed out and each in there own way was adorable and unforgettable.

On the re-watch I thought over and over that the first half of season one was practically a different show. I don't know anything about behind the scenes, but I feel that at some point the producers realized they had to change course. The second half was the beginning of awesome.
Farscape was basically an incredibly well done take on Buck Rogers. I think the series stands on it's own as is. The last thing I want to watch is another Phantom Menace.

I keep planning on a FS rewatch, but new stuff keeps coming out. It's not a bad thing mind you, finally having enough new programming to keep my brain occupied.

Still one of the best Sci-Fi shows ever.

My boss back then wasn't keen, then arrived one day and said "the ship's pregnant?!?"

While I like all the episodes from season 1 on some level. Yeah the first handful of eps the show was still finding its legs. But I still enjoy them. The one episode where it really starts to fire on all cylinders and we get a glimpse of how the rest of the shows standout episodes will be is probably DNA MAD SCIENTIST. That episode hits all the right cords. It also really begins to solidify the John and Aeryn relationship. The end with Pilot and D'Argo was well done also. D'Argo said he would do what he did again if needed and did not apologize verbally....but rather played a piece of music for Pilot.

Wasn't it more a newer version of Blakes' Seven?

Farscape for me is a bit of a weird experience. I love a lot about Seasons 1 and 3, to the point where when I'm watching those seasons I generally love the show (with a few exceptions for bad individual episodes). But Season 2 was extremely difficult for me to get through, and I've literally never gotten all the way through Season 4 (I stop when the show drops the entire premise of Farscape).

When Farscape plays to its strengths, its generally good to great. The Way We Weren't is legitimately one of my favorite episodes of Sci Fi TV ever made, and it was in the generally awful Season 2. But when its bad, its some of my most hated Sci Fi TV watching experiences.

It was like Blake's 7 if Blake was Buck Rogers.:)

I hesitate to ask, but what do YOU think is the entire premise of Farscape--and I won't critique you if you clarify it is your opinion.

Further to the point, premises evolve. Farscape's certainly did and for the better. In my opinion, of course.

That's because stories have stages of development. Farscape was one of the early series to have an overarching story that lasted multiple seasons. Crichton's story advances, but from beginning to end the show is about family and friendship and what defines those concepts, and Crichton's journey of self-discovery.

Farscape realized it couldn't keep going with the "Lost in Space" thing, that's why they resolved it and then had Crichton realize he couldn't just go back to Earth.

But even that development is built into the plot arc of the story, and whether IRL it was planned or not, feels like a natural progression.
