Crom is my god, but I seldom pray to him, he doesn't listen.

As I understand it, Deism says that God created the universe, bankrolled the whole project, set everything in motion according to constant natural laws, and then went on to the next gig. God doesn't intervene in the affairs of man. He doesn't take phone calls. He doesn't visit the set or send his lackeys to visit the set. In other words, God is Executive Producer of the Universe.

God loves me and helps me live life for the better- but I do buddhist chanting and tarot card readings(not anymore - I just remain totally psychic from reading for years in cafe's and stuff) also yeah I thank God for the food I am to eat --- at night I let good know that I like how I am guided. and stuff- I know life loves me --- and everything I do---

I picked Atheist because "other" just doesn't seem to fit what I actually do believe and while I'm not totally against the idea of religion what I believe doesn't seem to fit any of the things mentioned, at least not within conventional definitions.

Wouldn't that make God a bit of a dickbag?

That seems a little odd to say, considering "other" is literally intended to be the catchall category for any response that "doesn't seem to fit any of the things mentioned". :)

I know. I do believe in some kind of "god" but not in the traditional sense

Doesn't that describe most Hollywood producers? :)

IMO, much of the problem with most conceptions of Deity are "made in our image". We describe watchmakers, movie producers, fathers, kings, etc. Even most pre-monotheistic descriptions ascribe the same attributes and foibles as humans have. I think that's why so many people now describe themselves and "spiritual but not religious." It's hard - but not impossible - to conceive of Something beyond our current abilities to understand.

I'd say it's almost impossible. Because how could such a being have any kind of relationship with us beyond a person looking at an anthill? We would be unable to communicate in a reasonable fashion with such a being, nor they to us.

Because such an intelligent Being would have the know-how to create us with the ability to comprehend, at least enough for relationship. But I agree, our finite minds fall short of that kind of magnificence. Our reach into the infinite is equivalent to an inch at best, but He comes the rest of the way to bridge that gap.

I meant that it's hard for humans to imagine a being/s like that. But it isn't impossible, because humans have done so, usually in science fiction.

What happens if God isn't a he or a she but genderless, and without form?

Gender is not a prerequisite for knowing someone. And Christians believe God is Spirit/without form. So we seem to be on the same page.

Many Christians *say* they believe god is without gender or form, but the Male Father God is pretty heavily entrenched in our culture and it shows in both words and actions. That's part of why I was deeply attracted to Goddess spirituality decades ago - a bit of an "antidote" if you will.

Now I tend to think that what we think of as "gender" and "form" are meaningless concepts in regards to whatever Being/s may exist. Using terms like Him or Her or Isis or Thor are just ways for our minds to try to make sense.

We ascribe gender because that's what our tiny human minds have always known. To think beyond that is a step too far for a lot of people because the "he" bit has been so entrenched in our psyche.

Or it's simple ways that the infinite Being can reach out to us, using words and concepts we understand. (Any Trek fan can understand that. ;) "Darmok" anyone?)
