Fro a while I had a problem with how Generations went, killing off Kirk and destroying the Enterprise-D, so i took the time to write my own alternative version, here's my first go:

    - Caption: 2293. We see a Klingon Bird of Prey fly towards Qu’onos.

    - The Bird of Prey lands. Two Klingon guards come down the ramp with a prisoner. It’s JAMES T KIRK.

    - We’re back in the courtroom from TUC but this time Kirk is alone, scared. No Bones. The judge states Kirk is on trial for the murder of two guards on Rura Penthe. Kirk insists it was just self-protection.

    - The Judge finds Kirk guilty, but due to arrangements with the Federation, who arranged for him to be returned to Qu’onos, he will not be executed. He will be held in suspended animation for 75 years. Kirk is a valuable bounty to members of Klingon society, and he should think himself lucky. A man named TOGH looks on, who we will meet again later.

    - Kirk is led through a corridor of cells. Inhabitants are not frozen cryogenically, but rather frozen in time – An Andorian in a ‘Cage’ era uniform. Romulans caught in the time warp moments before suspension. Kirk asks what this technology is. Even rogue Klingons, clearly from long ago. This technology is unbelievable.

    - Kirk is led into his cell by Togh and two guards. Frozen in time. The guards stare at him with glee. Togh comments that the sentence is too lenient.

    - 75 years later, Captain JEAN-LUC PICARD, in dress uniform, is giving a speech in Ten Forward welcoming delegates travelling to Vulcan for the annual Peace Conference. There are members of many races and worlds. His speech is met with applause.

    - Picard is congratulated by his first officer, WILL RIKER, who is leaving to Captain his own ship. Picard feels it’s the end of an era. Among the delegates is Ambassador SPOCK who greets Picard, as he hasn’t seen him for a while. Picard notices that Spock is preoccupied with something else. TROI picks this up too.

    - DATA and GEORDI scene where Geordi installs the emotion chip

    - Picard visits Spock in his quarters. Spock tells Picard that 75 years ago the Federation returned Kirk to Qu’onos for trial, where he was cryogenically frozen. He visited Kirk to check on him shortly after but they wouldn’t let him see him. Picard suggests Kirk could still be alive, waiting. But why the secrecy? He has pull with the Chancellor, and he will make enquiries.

    - Picard mulls this over in his Ready Room with Riker. Could Kirk have been betrayed by the Federation? He is contacted by GENERAL KARLOTH of the IKS Gorkon. The Enterprise has permission to visit the Klingon homeworld.

    - Picard, Worf , Spock and CRUSHER beam down to the planet. They are met with the very elderly GOVERNOR TOGH, who tells them Kirk died decades ago. ‘Why’, Picard wonders, ‘would he invite them down to say that?’ Spock hypothesises that he is not telling the truth.

    - Togh argues back. He invited Starfleet in as guests. Worf argues he is being dishonorable. This causes a fight. In the process, Picard and Crusher are dragged away. Spock nerve pinches a warrior and melds with him, only Worf is beamed away.

    - On the Enterprise, Data is particularly gleeful, which concerns Riker and Geordi. Worf reports what happened. The Klingons are hiding something he doesn’t even know about, particularly Togh.

    - On Qu’onos, Picard is injured but fine. Crusher nurses his wounds. Spock meditates in the corner. He shares he knows Captain Kirk is alive. They just need to wait and stage a breakout

    - On the Enterprise, Riker receives a message from Karloth. He insists that Gowron does not know where Picard, Spock and Crusher are.

    - On Qu’onos in the cell, Picard’s injuries seem to be getting worse. Crusher calls for help. A guard comes to inspect Picard, but he is met with a punch in the face, then a nerve pinch. The three prisoners escape. Spock leads Picard down some ark old corridors to a particular room. Picard goes in alone.

    - He finds the suspension cages. The Romulans, the Andorian, more… Kirk. Togh finds Picard. He is not going to call the guards, he wants to talk to an intelligent equal. This is secret technology the Klingons have had for centuries, perhaps Iconian. These people are trapped in bubbles of time. Everyday he watches over them. Picard reasons with him – some of these sentences ended years ago. Spock and Crusher join Picard – Spock stares at his old friend. Picard demands Kirk’s release. Togh demands. No. Take any of the others, but not Kirk.

    - “I have been, and always shall be your friend.” Spock looks mornfully at Kirk, still. Picard looks at a panel, NO! Togh screams as the cells suddenly have their forcefields turned off. The various prisoners, about two dozen or so, confused, dazed, walk out of their cells. Togh runs away through a back door.

    - Spock is reunited with Kirk. Kirk asks what happened. Picard suggests that guards will be coming soon so they need to get out. He manages to hail the Enterprise and get all beamed away except Picard.

    - On the Enterprise, in sickbay, the prisoners are being checked out. Worf takes some to the brig. Crusher checks Kirk over and he’s fine. Crusher leaves Kirk and Spock to talk. Kirk realises he has a lot to learn about this new time period. He is bitter that Starfleet knowingly left him to rot.

    - In the Observation Lounge, the bridge crew discuss what to do with their information and how to rescue Picard. What Togh is doing Worf explains that what he is doing is illegal. This is not authorised by high command.

    - Kirk comes in. He demands to know why Starfleet fed him to the dogs. Riker insists the Federation is now on friendly terms with the Klingons. Kirk sees himself in Riker’s hot headedness.

    - On the Gorkon bridge, an officer tells General Karloth his uncle has arrived. It’s Togh. Togh requests that they go after the Enterprise… and Kirk – the man who dishonored his House and killed his son – a guard on Rura Penthe. Karloth agrees.

    - In the brig Togh ensures Picard they WILL get Kirk. Picard is their bargaining chip.

    - The Enterprise is in space, still near the Neutral Zone, when it is his by a Klingon disruptor. Karloth comes on screen, insisting they trade the two Captains.

    - Spock argues they play this carefully. There is a nearby planet to perform the exchange.

    - Kirk insists that the Klingons are no good, why did they not fire back? Spock tries to convince him they have been at peace all these years. Picard was even Arbiter of Successon. Kirk needs to learn to trust Klingons. These are clearly rogue. Kirk has an idea.

    - Data and Kirk board a shuttle. Data explains how he wishes to be more human. Kirk is charmed by him.

    - The shuttle arrives on the Gorkon. Picard returns to the shuttle but Kirk refuses to go. The three Starfleet officers beam back to the Enterprise.

    - A dogfight ensues. Kirk suggests a manoeuvre to Worf and tries it – destroying the Bird of Prey. Worf says they died with no honour!

    - Starbase One. ADMIRAL MCCOY and SCOTTY are in the bar, drinking and reminiscing. Ambassador Spock walks through the door. They are astonished as Captain Kirk follows behind him. The four friends are happy, reunited.

    - In the transporter room of the Enterprise, Picard, now in an Admiral’s uniform, bids farewell to Captain Riker.

    - Admiral Picard returns to the bridge to hand over to his successor – Captain James T Kirk, now in a new uniform. Data is in red as new first officer; Crusher , Troi and LaForge are also still among the bridge crew. Kirk is surprsied as Spock walks in, saying he is assigned as Diplomatic Advisor on a temporary basis.

    - Picard hands Kirk a PADD with details of his first mission. They are going to explore near the Briar Patch. Picard leaves and Kirk instructs the helmsman to set a course.

this is great, wouldve preferred it to Generations. feels like a true sequel to VI and moves TNG on without destroying the Ent D

who to cast-- maybe Malcom McDowell as Togh and Michael Ironside as Karloth.

    directed by Nimoy (or Meyer)

Thanks! Spock is more of a supporting role here so maybe Nimoy could direct? Love Meyer though. EDIT Yeah it's Meyer. Nimoy's names already on the credits so let's bring him in

I'd usually say Frakes but Riker has a large role and it's maybe a little early for him to direct a feature?

    Nice casting here!

I like it, but one thing bothered me.

What is Kirk guilty of? He saved the Federation President at the end of TUC and Ahzetbur said that he restored her father's faith after that. That might have gotten him a pardon.

Maybe Nimoy as we know he was originally approached to direct VII but declined when he was refused more time to sort out the script. but this version hed have probably approved! as its kind of continuing VI whilst still introducing TNG. Meyer probably had his fill of Trek by then but then maybe he'd have been interested in TNG working with PStewart, Shakespeare/Holmes holodeck scene etc .. Idk.. Maybe Nimoy directs, Meyer script (like IV)?

    Yeah too early for Frakes.

I wonder if the Enterprise A (or B) could make a apoearence? Maybe in the opening somewhere (with cameos from Sulu, Chekov, Uhura)

    Yes! The dream team

A or B, maybe the ship that ferries Kirk to Qu'onos? B or not the B, that is the question. Maybe Chekov is Captain with Uhura as first officer?

I'm not going to randomly place Sulu as a visitor. What to do with him...

True, will have tio rethink that

Maybe instead of going back on Trial Kirk is entrapped by Togh?

I'm redoing the opening - it's a revenge plot - Togh has it in for Kirk for killing his son

    DRAFT TWO:

    - Caption: 2293. Earth. Above it in drydock sits a shiny new Starship. USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701-B, Excelsior class.

    - In corridors, the bridge, officers are scurrying about preparing for the launch. Down the corridor CAPTAIN NYOTA UHURA and her first officer COMMANDER PAVEL CHEKOV commenting on how they are excited, and looking forward to welcoming their guest of honour.

    - They walk into the transporter room, they stand and wait for the chief to beam in their guest.

    - In beams CAPTAIN JAMES T KIRK, retired.

    - He is happy to see his former colleagues and asks cheekily to show him round.

    - The Enterprise is on her maiden voyage. Kirk watches proudly as the bridge crew work. Kirk meets the Enterprise’s new helmswoman – ENSIGN DEMORA SULU

    - They suddenly receive a transmission. It’s a message for Captain Kirk from a Klingon vessel. They wish to invite him to the homeworld for a pardon for his mistreatment during his trial and incarceration

    - Uhura and Chekov are unsure. Kirk says he’ll be fine. Uhura reluctantly instructs Sulu to set course for the Klingon homeworld.

    - The Enterprise arrives at Qu’onos

    - Captain Kirk beams down with two security officers, he is met with COLONEL TOGH. Togh says Kirk had needn’t brought security.

    - Togh brings Kirk into a building. A Klingon officer shoots the stwo security guards in the back. Kirk panics.

    - Togh rises a phaser to Kirk and tells him to do exactly as he says. Kirk raises his hands and Togh instructs him: eyes front, walk ahead

Ok I like the second version better except for one thing. Instead of it being revenge for Kirk killing a guard a Rura Penthe, what if it was for Kruge on the Genesis Planet? It could be a relative of Kruge's behind the whole thing which would tie it into TSFS very nicely.
