Well, I don't know about taking it personally. Some people like it. Other don't. I happen to be one who doesn't like it. Part of it was the execution. The Doctor was literally a passive recipient of what the Master told her that he found. Of course, that leaves open the door that the Master was lying, so perhaps a silver lining!

But, part of it is the storyline itself. I liked the idea that Hartnell was the first. That he was an average Time Lord who got bored and roamed the galaxy. He learned that he wanted to do good and he got the whole Doctor thing down. The Timeless Child undoes that. Yeah, amnesia, I know. It would both allow Hartnell to not be the first but act as though he was. I don't know, just not the same for me.

Instead, we learn that the Doctor is some super being who by accident of birth founded Time Lord society. To me, that's just not as interesting.

Of course, YMMV. Some people aren't as attached to Hartnell being the first or the Doctor is just a regular Time Lord who happens to care. Such is life!

I'll also add that if Chibnall wasn't the showrunner, I'd feel more optimistic about where this is headed. As it is, he just adds another layer of doubt for me.

I am hoping for the best though!

I just wish more of that eccentricity came through (or was allowed to come through) in her performance.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the Hybrid storyline and the Timeless Child storyline, considering the Hybrid was a satire of storylines like the Timeless Child. The resolution of the hybrid was pretty much Moffat making the argument that the actual lore or answer to a mystery isn’t that important, it’s the emotional reality of how it affects the characters that makes it work or not.

While they hybrid storyline dispensed with the mystery because it had led the Doctor and Clara to the emotional resolution of their character arcs, the Timeless Child was one of those YouTube videos reading a Wikipedia article, and the only character effect it had (or can have, frankly, because Chibnall won’t implode the premise of the show to become about medical justice on prehistoric Gallifrey) was the Doctor got to Green Lantern harder and defeat the Master because she wanted to win more than she’d wanted to when she was “just” the Doctor.

(ETA: I just realized "The Doctor Green Lanterning Harder" and how unsatisfying that is as a conclusion was a key point in in "The Rings of Akhaten." At the time, I always thought the Moffat era was in a sort of metatextual debate with the RTD era, where they were both asking similar questions but sometimes giving very different answers, but it's been, so, so weird that the Moffat era now reads as a preemptive critique of the Chibnall era in a much more biting way than how it interacted with the RTD era.)

In a couple of hours, Doctor Who will release its Comic-Con at Home panel with Chris Chibnall, Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, John Bishop, and a surprise guest. I'm willing to bet we'll get a trailer by the end of it.

I'll post the YouTube link as soon as its available.

    And here it is!

I didn't check to see if there's a trailer at the end. I'm going to watch the panel first.

Some notes I jotted down throughout the whole panel:
    • Series 13 will tell one large story.

    • Series 13 opens with The Doctor and Yas traveling on their own for awhile. I can't wait for the Big Finish stories to fill in that gap! Even if it's a terrible tease that we don't get to see in the show because I really wanted to see just Jodie and Mandip happen.

    • Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm from Game of Thrones) is the surprise guest and his reoccurring character has his own ship in the show. He has worked with Jodie and Chris before in Broadchurch (I completely forgot he was in the first season!).

    • There will be several other characters who will reoccur throughout the season.

    • I adore Jodie's verbal somersaults to avoid spoilers while telling a story.

    • I love that Jodie wore a Miles Morales t-shirt for Comic-Con!

    • John talking about how he unnecessarily threw himself around to "simulate" the TARDIS shaking reminds me of Laura Dern and her pew-pewing for The Last Jedi.

    • A bunch of old monsters are returning and Mandip is especially excited about one of them in particular.

    • Sounds like some or all of the episodes will end with cliffhangers.

    • Chibnall talking about how he grew up on the show made me realize that we're getting to the point where those who have grew up watching the revival only could be involved with making the show now. Maybe in five to ten years, they could be following the footsteps of Davies, Moffat, and Chibnall!

    • I LOVE the new logo!!

And here's the trailer on its own:

Right?! Makes me feel extra old.

And like I said, give them enough experience as a writer, they could be running the show in about ten years.

Looking at the in-character photo they released I wonder if this recurring role was originally meant to be Barrowman but they had to come up with someone new, for obvious reasons?

From what I gather filming started last November, while Barrowman‘s public image took a hit around April/May of this year. So unless he he was only set to reoccur in the latter half of the show, or they re-shot scenes to include Anderson in earlier episodes I don‘t think that‘s what‘s likely.

    Ouch.

Yup, you beat me to it.

Besides, as noted in the panel, both Jodie and Chris have worked with him before, so clearly they wanted to bring on board anyways.

You can think that if you want, but I think the rest of us will stick to logic and the facts.

There's absolutely no way that Vinder is a 'stand-in' character for Jack Harkness.

Believing that Chibnall didn't always have that character (Vinder) in his Series 13 plans is just foolishness.

So, Chibbers has said the word "Swarm" is important. Would he actually bring back the prawns from the Tom Baker story? Return of the Wirrn? Menoptera?

Or is climate change the threat as per his usual "there's no coherent malevolent force behind it"? i.e. 's'warm innit? ;)
