Thanks! I've got an idea for a Federation class variant of the JR-Prise that would have a wild hanger bay. It'll be a while before I get to that one though. Expect to see more of it soon, although it may have to be against plain starfields instead of glorious nebulas due to my old computer's slow render times. It's the Dominion War and I'm the lucky guy Captaining a Miranda. The old girl has served longer than any ship should have to.
Goddamn! You frickin' did it! Again! This just looks fantastic! Let me tell you just this - I digged up my age old account just to tell you how awesome your work is. Shame that this sub-forum isn't that busy anymore. More people need to see your stuff. (Can someone tweet to Kurtzman, or something?) Seriously, I dig your style. Your Enterprise is IMO the best re-imagining of the old lady I've ever seen out there. I can easily imagine a "Balance of Terror" re-imagination with these two ships. You got nice, clean lines, but amazing work with the shapes & detail. I wish the "Strange New World" show would just look like your stuff! Tiny nitpick: I think the nacelles look a little bit too "Federation"-y. Although they already did that in the original. Idk, maybe try some green/blue/turkis colors for the nacelle caps? Or more oange instead of red? Or something a bit more angular? I really would like to see your take on the post-TNG era. I love the Ent-E & Akira, but PIC and stuff isn't really doing anything for me... (I think the "modern" ships are all a tad too... flat? I Idk, I love tall ship designs, that also look good from the side). Ayway, can't wait to see what you cook up next!

I don't know what they're doing visiting a Romulan vessel, but it was more interesting than having random Romulans disembarking from their own shuttle. Thank you Rahul! I still can't believe the JR-Prise didn't get nuked by the fandom. I really expected it to get shot down hard. I'd love to do something official with Star Trek. Maybe if I do enough ship designs they'll get adopted into Star Trek Online. Earlier today I looked at an online retailer that had cut a deal with various licensees to sell fan art. They had a bunch of Trek fan art for sell, but CBS isn't currently looking at any new product idea submissions. Oh well, it was an idea. Speaking of "Balance of Terror-" in my head cannon these ships exist in another parallel universe. Unfortunately not all parallel universes survive. I'm thinking the Temporal Integrity Commission has only been able to save the Prime timeline from a multiverse full of budding time travelers. The "normal" thing is for a universe to break apart when races fire up their time machines, and this Enterprise is in a "normal" universe. I was going to have the "break apart" point happen in "Balance of Terror." BTW, since there was a parallel universe "James S. Kirk," and the Prime timeline Enterprise is Captained by "James T. Kirk," than the JR-Prise must be Captained by "James R. Kirk." It can't be anything else, can it? Well, in my canon the Accipiters represent the look of Romulan ships from the Vulcan departure to the Discovery era. In the Discovery era, the Tal Shiar picked up on the Spore Drive program and, after the Battle of Pahvo, the Romulan Emperor decided to go all-in on Spore Drive. That's the reason why TOS era Romulan ships look so much like Federation ships. I've been wanting to do a shot of the Starglider fitted with a spinning ring, but I want to do a lot of shots and may not get around to that one. You can assume that ship existed though, and the experiment failed. The Romulans couldn't make the Spore Drive work, but for a while they were stuck with a bunch of ships that were built for it. After wasting their resources on a dead end, they had to make a technology exchange with the Klingons to get caught back up again, and that's why they had the Klingon wing-and-pod design from the TMP era to the post-TNG era. This is the closest I've come to finishing a TNG era ship. Putting a full size photon torpedo launcher on the Runabouts changes the nature of starship combat in Trek, IMO. I imagine I'll finish this guy up - I'm calling it the "Klingon Beholder." It's used for spying and electronic warfare and is very fast. The Enterprise might be able to catch it, if the Beholder doesn't have too much of a lead. It's not easy to sneak up on one with that big sensor dish though. It's supposed to be TOS era so don't fall in love with the green. I need to change it to grey.
Uh, all around amazing work! Your work does warrant more recognition, that BoP is movie level quality. Keep up the good work! Not every piece needs to be as detailed as this one (I can only guess the amount of work that took...), but this is definitely one of the most exciting pieces that came from the fan design corners in recent years.
Here's the Bird of Prey we're talking about, for those who haven't seen it, in one of it's million wing configurations. This thing had too much articulation. I never did get the landing gear worked out.
Bloody hell . . . it's another ship idea again! This one is the "Akimoto Maru," I'm sure you can guess what she does.
It's a general cargo hauler. It can haul fuel, but it's no super tanker. Then again, maybe the pipes in the back are for a dedicated tanker version. Or should it be an optional attachment? The area between the warp engines is a flat deck that things can be clamped down on. I've got a structure at the back that is going to become a modular passenger compartment, with a walkway that goes up to the saucer.
You really can do no wrong in these designs. You understand grace. This has all the Federation leitmotifs of bevels and circles and such....plus your own creativity.
You know what's harder to model than it looks like it should be? Trusses! I tried to use Blender's wireframe plugin to make them, and it sort of works but doesn't really. I tried converting my mesh to a curve and then using a circle as the cross section, and that sort of worked. But not really. So I finally modelled them myself. I can't believe how much time I spent on something that seems so simple. Cleaning up the geometry on that neck hanger took longer than it should have too, but it was worth it. I wanted to use these ideas on bigger and sexier ships, but they fit so well on the Akimoto Maru. One of these days I want to do a Foley class that will have this same kind of hanger deck arrangement in the engineering hull, so picture it on a slightly larger JR-prise. About the scaling, I like the idea of the JR-Prise being significantly larger than most ships, so this is as big as I want the Akimoto Maru to be next to the Enterprise. In any other fictional universe, she'd be a few times bigger, but it's Star Trek; so she's actually a reasonable size. publiusr - I do wrong by way of not finishing my models I'll try to do better!
I always thought the neck of Excelsior would be great for a small shuttlebay. Great work. Especially the bridge area of your Enterprise there. Quite elaborate.
