I prefer the teaser design as well...the nacelles didn't look like letter openers.

As someone who enjoys neat naming patterns, I'm oddly comforted by differentiating between Star Trek 4 (fourth KEL film) in particular and Star Trek XIV (14th Trek movie) in general. :adore:

Most films in development have release dates on a schedule. Those dates are hardly firm and get moved all the time. Why did they do it? To make sure they don't do two big films releasing near each other. Most times the dates aren't made public but to say that a film and development having a release date means it must be a sure thing is ridiculous.

Seems like they actually could air it in 2021 if they wanted to, given in past seasons of modern Trek filming wasn't even done when the first episodes were airing.

That said, I'm sure they have scheduling reasons for holding back on some Trek.

I'd guess it has more to do with ParPlus sub retention.

Only season 1 of Discovery (and even then that was only a month before filming finished). Season one of Picard and Season 2 of Discovery both aired after filming finished.

As did Season 3 of Discovery, but that was for obvious reasons.

I imagine we'll get a trailer/teaser at San Diego Comic-Con in July, or Star Trek Day in September.

Damn, if it weren't for the pandemic I wonder if we would have gotten an art exhibit of props and such like they did for DSC and PIC

That was back in the 90s when they were doing 26 episode seasons specifically meant to stretch from September to May. That's not the way of these modern shows.

Like every other Star Trek show on what was CBS All Access and is now Paramount+, they'll start a media and marketing blitz when it's next up on the release schedule. So I really wouldn't expect a lot of information until late December of this year or early next year as they've stated it's scheduled to appear in the first quarter of 2022. About the only info will probably get before then is that the first season is finished filming is and is in "the can".

I'm pretty sure there will be some sort of teaser on September 8. Just like last year they had trailers for Disco season 3 and the remaining episodes of Lower Decks season 1. Or on First Contact Day where they had the trailers for Lower Decks season 2, Disco season 4 and a teaser for Picard season 2.

It's a free stencil you can find online. I pointed it out last month when the last clapper board was posted here.

Also 4 weeks ago they were shooting Episode 2, so maybe they are shooting out of order. Or that was just an old image.

Why would I have an issue with it? For the original NCC-1701 Enterprise That's how the nacelle pylons should actually be.

I really hope it does carry over to the actual visuals, and if it does it shows we actually have a real TOS Star Trek fan finally running a show based on TOS.

Like most modern Star Trek producers it appears Kurtzman doesn't hold TOS in very high regard but greatly respects the later shows of the TNG era. They went out of their way to make sure that the 1701-D looked exactly like it did on the screen, and they also didn't really update any of the TNG uniforms in the same manner that they updated the TOS error uniforms for the second season of Discovery.

So yeah Alex Kurtzman and Co. for the most part really like TNG, But seem to find TOS 'dated' to the point it really needs a visual upgrade. I'll be honest and say I don't agree with that attitude but that's who we have running the franchise at the moment.

I absolutely agree with it, so I guess I'm happy to have somebody who wants to update the visuals. I think it's in dire need of it, even beyond the point they've already done so.

I guess I should clarify the fact that I don't expect them to faithfully recreate everything from the 1960s version of TOS. I like what they've done with the internal layout of the 1701 and the 1701 bridge in Discovery season 2, and I'm also fine with their version of the TOS era uniforms. But sorry, there's aspects of their 1701 external visual redesign that I really don't care for.

I would have loved it if they had just gone with the original straight up nacelle pylons, or even straight up split nacelle pylons; But to have them both swept back (as supposed to call back to the ST:TMP 1701 pylons); and split? <--- at that point it just seems to be visual change for visual change sake.

I can only imagine how much the TNG fans would have streamed if they changed anything with respect to the 1701-D In the opening dream flashback shot of the first episode of 'Picard'; and to me the 1701 D is one of the worst-looking ships in Star Trek history. I've never cared for the look of that ship since I first saw it on screen in 1987. But yeah that ugly thing gets re-created in all its absolutely ugly glory; while the 1701 TOS exterior gets its second redesign (The first one being for JJ Trek back in 2009 which is another version I just think is ugly as hell.) YMMV of course. ;)

Oh absolutely. I totally respect your right to like or dislike whatever you want. All of that is just subjective anyway and tastes vary. For my own personal taste, it’s all about believability. I look at TOS and I pretty much blank out the visuals and concentrate on the story alone, because if I didn’t I’d just cringe myself into an aneurysm.

I've long said my preference would be if they left the shapes and dimensions of everything the same and just added surface detail. Like skinning a 3d model with new textures, but in real life.

I love TOS and still think it needs updating. I grow tired of faithful recreations somehow illustrating fan status.
