    Do it smooth, Donny.

Especially if you're getting fatigued with modelling the gold ships. Do enough to get it through now (which lets face it, is far better than most could achieve) - if after a while you want to go back, then you easily can do, when you're blood's back up for the project.

Finished up the Sovereign gold model tonight, gonna get it in-game and call the Observation Lounge done for now! I'm waiting for Marc Bell to finish his Sovereign model to use as an exterior model out the windows of the lounge, so I'll be moving onto something else in the interim. Dunno what yet.

Shots of the lounge now that the ship display is complete! Final shots pending the vista view of the Sovereign's exterior.

One last image before I call it a night. The behind-the-scenes photos of this room show 5 spotlights up near the ceiling, which didn't appear to be illuminated during the movie. I was watching a TNG episode the other night (don't recall which one) and I noticed in an observation lounge scene that took place during red alert, there was a slowly pulsing subtle red light illuminating the walls behind the actors. So I speculate that the spotlights of the FC observation lounge could be red-alert lights. Here's my visualization, with darkened lighting overall:

Well, if you did the Ready Room then you'd have deck 1 complete. This looks great BTW, nice job!

Looks fantastic Donny - the scale you arrived at works great.

Can we see a phaser rifle next to it for comparison?

That reminds me; oddly enough, the main ceiling light fixtures in the observation lounge are windows on the studio model. Not sure why I'm bringing it up, except it's interesting. Maybe a behind-the-scenes miscommunication with the construction drawings. Or maybe not, I'm sure I've seen those as light panels somewhere, but I'm not sure if it was in a BTS photo or in one of the actual movies.

^ Could be some future technology that let's you convert windows into light sources easily. They actually had something like that on Discovery in season two, IIRC.

Yes, those windows seem to correspond to the light wells in the observation lounge. We get our clearest view of the light panels in this behind-the-scenes photo:
Indeed, these are the main sources of illumination for the set.

These light panels ended up in the TATV episode as well, as part of that observation lounge set:

Anyway, whether they can switch between being light panels or windows is something I wouldn't mind toying with once I migrate to Unreal 5 (since it will allow big, wholesale dynamic lighting changes I'd need to create the effect in real-time). Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until some of Unreal 5's issues get sorted out.

In regards to the intent of the designers? No idea. It's possible they were originally intended to be windows (since we see them on the exterior model as windows) but then they realized they needed more illumination on the set so they became light panels. This also brings up another point: there is no discernible window on the exterior model's bridge structure corresponding to where the ready room window would be ;)

It would seem the next logical step to go ahead and bust out the ready room, but I'm gonna take a couple of days to think about what I want to do next. Might be the ready room, might not. We'll see!

So that's what those lighted windows on the 11' Enterprise model are. They triple-function as exterior lights-interior lights-windows :D

Maybe it's another holographic screen just like the viewscreen.

    Beginnings of the Ready Room:

Had a hell of a time reconciling the dimensions. After about a day of work, I realized that the dimensions of the room were a bit different than the plan view of the ready room that appears on the Ent-E Bridge Schematics. First of all, the forward alcoves of the Enterprise-E bridge schematic are not accurate to how they were built (the only discrepancy I discovered during my bridge build), so the door connected to the ready room at a different angle, which prompted much adjustment. Also, the ready room wall with the door perpendicular to the entry doorway appared much wider on screen in FC and INS. So I had to widen that wall and angle it differently to meet the set where it should. Last of all, the circular corner nooks are 3 feet in diameter, as opposed to two feet on the schematic.

I still don't know if my layout is completely accurate, but this was the only way I could get everything to appear roughly the same dimensions as we see on screen. Here's a top-down comparison, with my build in red.

The structure of the FC room is in place, going to do the adjustments for the INS version (the ceiling was raised by a foot, the door to the side of the desk chair is mirrored, and the shelving near the window was covered/removed) before starting propping!

Finished generating the structural differences between the FC and INS ready rooms. Here are two different views with side-by-side comparisons

I like the lower ceiling of the FC version better, and the moodier lighting. But for the sake of completion, I'll be doing both versions. (It may need to be repeated, but I have no desire to do the Nemesis version)

So for INS it seemed they literally sawed through the struts and then filled the awkward gap with boxy light fittings, am I right?
I hope it was worth it!
