I've tried to do this before but with mixed results (unfortunately the pictures are no longer available online). This is a second attempt to create a USS Enterprise design that draws from both TOS and TNG, specifically the A and E designs. A sort of merge of the two eras into a single ship.

I'm very satisfied with this one. If I say so myself, it's among my best works.

That's a really great take on an updated "classic" Constitution.

    Very nicely done! :bolian:

I think you have reached that point where nothing can be added, nor taken away...

A few adjustments today, mainly to the secondary impulse drive, and a few other details.

Great work! I especially like those nacelles! Very cool design. The curved edge on the indented section of the neck is also a very nice design choice.

Another update today, this time I redrew the saucer impulse engines completely. Something didn't feel right about them.

(updated images in the opening post).

    Beautiful work.
My favorite part of the Vanguard class is the side view. It's both compact and graceful, like a swan. I could see this as a refit to the Constitution/Enterprise-class from the 2300s decade, incorporating what Starfleet learned from serial production of the larger Excelsior class.

This is the design that takes the Constitution through the early to middle 24th century, pre-2367.

The top view reminds me pleasantly of the 25th century Exeter-class refit.

He edited the original post it seems (of course I can only like that post once :brickwall: )

    --------------------------------
Has a bit of the C in there as well (at least the secondary hull calls back to that E)

Sorry, but when I update my images on Deviantart the old ones vanish eventually so I can't really keep the OP images. That's why I just update the first post.

Another slight update today, mainly the impulse deck, which didn't "stick out" enough for my tastes.

If it's just minor adjustments I generally don't.

I know we've hashed this out before, but it bears repeating: if you don't leave the old ones there to compare to, these updates are near meaningless for most of us, no matter how lovely we think they are. It really is much more appropriate to the spirit of the forum to add new work to the most recent part of a thread rather than removing and replacing the original content, as it not only deprives us of meaningful comparison (and therefore meaningful feedback), but also makes peoples responses retroactively nonsensical or misleading, as they were not responding to what it now looks like they were responding to.

It is, of course, your choice, but this isn't deviantart. It's been frustrating for many of us that love your work because this simply isn't how most folks use these threads, and we would love to provide something more than "that looks nice, does it look a little different, cool." I'd seriously consider using an additional image hosting site if you want to utilize TrekBBS (and its members) to its (and their) fullest.

For now, on point: it looks great as usual.

I understand your perspective, but as I've explained before 1) I can't leave the old ones unless I clog my Deviantart account with all the previous versions. As soon as I update it over there, the link here will eventually be broken and you won't see the old ones anyway; and 2) I don't post updates for comparison. Besides the updates are rarely major enough to justify that.

Then why post updates here at all? You've already got the deviantart for that purpose.

We all are following each others' works in progress, so if you hop on here and say "Another update today, this time I redrew the saucer impulse engines completely. Something didn't feel right about them", it's essentially meaningless as a forum post without that point of comparison. These are chronological threads, and you are undercutting their function.

I was going to reply further here, but realized all the essentials I've covered above (though you snipped them out of your reply). I will reiterate the most important bit: I'd seriously consider using an additional image hosting site if you want to utilize TrekBBS (and its members) to its (and their) fullest.

Again, we say this as lovers of your work!
