Isn't Kon-El Connor Kent, who's already being used in Titans?

I guess it could be him, but the fact that he's on Titans is a big point against, then there's the fact the character is almost always a hero, and he's also usually a teenager, or at least a lot younger than Adam Rayner, who's 43. Even if he's not a teenager, I would at least expect him to be significantly younger than Clark, since he's Superboy. I know they've made some pretty drastic changes in other shows, but this would be going pretty far off of the comics, even compared to other changes they've made in the past.

No way is it Kon-El/Conner. He's a clone created on Earth, while "Edge" is clearly from Krypton, or at least the mind possessing his body is.

The original version. The one that was just a clone of Superman back in AC #500

I think people may be reading too much into 'brother' and it was probably intended by the writers much like having everyone think "Captain Luthor" was the person in the suit.

"I think it's time you learned the truth about who I am and where I'm really from, brother."

"You may be a fellow Kryptonian, but—"

"No, no. You do not understand. I am also the son of Jor-El."

"You mean you're my 'brother' brother? You made that up."

    "I did not."

"You did too! You couldn't possibly be my brother because I happen to know for a fact that I don't have a brother."

"Technically, you are right. You do not have a brother."

    "There! You see?"

    "You have an adopted brother."

    "I gotta sit down."

One upside to Morgan Edge being Superman's biological brother is that it would offer an interesting parallel for Jon and Jordan, as well as some potential drama on what their relationship could evolve into.

Just wait until the truth comes out and Morgan Edge is really John Henry Irons. Or Martian Manhunter. Or Ra's al Ghul. Or Khan. Or Keyser Soze.

I think that the episode did a good job of showing both sides of the issue--especially when the show actually demonstrates why anti Kryptonian weapons are needed and we have Jonathan using one of those weapons shortly after his scene with Sam.

For Kal-El, humans saw the symbol and figured it was an "S"-- then named him Superman (although that might just be something I made up), for Zod conveniently having a "Z" is just stretching it a bit.

You are correct. It was Lois Lane who named him Superman. The idea was first introduced in the 1978 movie. Before that the S symbol had no Kryptonian origin or meaning. It was created on Earth to mean Superman. Or first Superboy once that aspect of his backstory was introduced.

Even after movie it was a very long time before the comics adopted that idea. The live action Superboy tv series had the S symbol being Kryptonian. Largely because it was produced by the Salkinds who also produced the movies. So did Lois & Clark. Superman The Animated Series briefly shows the S symbol on a Kryptonian device when young Clark learns his heritage. But that series never showed it on Krypton.

I can not remember the specific origin reboot when DC Comics fully embraced it. Sometime last 15 years? Their slow expectance is part of why there is no standardized version of the different Kryptonian House symbols. In the 1978 movie the other council members have their own symbols. Zod, Ursa, and Non do not. I imagine as prisoners they were stripped of any.

It’s interesting - Superman’s very popular Black suit was introduced when he was resurrected in 1993 at a time when the S symbol was not Kryptonian in the comics. But it has evolved to often representing Superman’s Kryptonian heritage and identity of Kal-El. Which obviously is different than his human identity of Clark Kent. But usually distinct from his Superman identity, which is the blue, red, and yellow suit which wears as Earth’s protector.

Usually the Black suit represents who he would have been if he grew up on Krypton. Or if on Earh is stripped of his humanity. Whether intentional or not that suit’s design inspiration could be traced back to the black robes Jor-El as played by Marlon Brando wore during the trial of the Phantom Zone villains.

The season-3 finale of Superboy had Superboy travel to alternate timelines where he met younger and older versions of himself (though his older version, played by Ron Ely, couldn't actually be addressed onscreen as "Superman" due to the rights issues), and his older self explained that his space pod went through a time warp en route from Krypton, so that it arrived in different eras on different parallel Earths. I suspect that was meant to imply that the Reeve movies were another alternate timeline in the same multiverse.

A bit earlier. It was Mark Waid's Superman: Birthright in 2003-4 that first established the "S" as the Kryptonian symbol for hope, and showed other Kryptonian emblems/crests with the same shape.

I can confirm that in the New 52 the 'S' is still the symbol of House of El.

That never occurred to me when watching that Adventures of Superboy episode, but I like it!
