Why the heck did they kill Data?

Why does Data have to supplant B4? We're not talking about human beings here. Who says coexistence is out of the question? Or a blending of "souls?" Also, why assume B4 is retarded, or that there's even an android equivalent to retardation? Watching the movie, he seems child-like, undeveloped.

 

But we are led to believe that he is as far along his development as he is likely to go.

And as we saw with Ira Graves, Soong Type Androids don't seem to be geared up for the sharing of more than one personality...

 

It was not necessary to kill him.

As horrible as the movie was, I would have forgiven it if Data had lived. Same as Generations. I would have forgiven it if Kirk had lived (I shed a tear for the Ent D also, but I could have lived with fugly Ent E if it meant Kirk and Data were alive)

 

Generations was undermined by the feeling that Kirk really had to die, which resulted in a rather lame death scene. Well, two, the first one they shot was even worse.

They killed the character because they felt they had to, but it just isn't good enough a death for such a popular character. It doesn't exactly help that the fake death on the Enterprise-B is better and more fitting for the character. Kirk should die saving the Enterprise.

 

I'd assume Data has control over his aging, it would allow him to visually age gracefully along with his currently relationships in order to make them feel more natural/comfortable with him, but then if he decided to move on he could simply reverse it.

 

It's amazing how many people miss the whole point of the movie. Data was killed so he could become the new and improved version of himself in the form of B4. Just as Shinzon wanted to become a better version of Picard, and himself, but failed miserably. As Picard comments (not in so many words) throughout the film, to Shinzon and Data, that one of the greatest things someone can strive for is to become a better person than he/she was the day before. To constantly be struggling for self-improvement, and not only that, but also to leave the world a little better than it would have been without your existence. How in the world can anyone find anything wrong with that? You'd have to be a pretty cold, callous and dark-hearted dystopian nihilist. I'm also surprised at the terrible reception the film received by critics, who found the moral of the film to be somewhat of sentimental and sappy. I disagree completely. It might not have been the best of the series, but I believe it was a lot better than most people think. As a matter of fact, perhaps a just little bit better than what came before. . . ‍♀️‍♂️‍♀️‍♂️‍☠️⭐️✨

Nemesis was terrible btw, insurrection on the other hand was the finest trek film ever.
