Thanks, @Michael. My initial thoughts were for the post-Nemesis Remans to be moving towards a more moderate and less military stance, so I dialled back on some of the horror aspects of the design (no fangs). I'm glad you picked up on a kind of friendliness. I guess I just prefer the idea of the Remans leaving to discover a new home rather than conquer one.
Here's my attempt at Sisko in the style of Tron: Uprising, I think I've hit closer to Jake, though. Perhaps my idea for an "Emissary of the Users" could be a hereditary title.
You know, I immediately thought Sisko, but as soon as I read that you think it's more Jake, now I do too - I can definitely see both, though. Whichever - he looks cool!
Standing in that white void reminds me of when Sisko visited the prophets. He also looks a bit like Morpheus in The Matrix where he teaches Neo. Either way, I think you really nailed the look!
Thanks @Michael, @publiusr. I was fortunate to find a trove of concept art and character references (here), they really helped. I hadn't appreciated, until now, how detailed the backgrounds are on Uprising. Not having time for that I've opted for a basic Outlands background for The Sisko. (Click to enlarge)
For me Star Trek is far more than just the on screen adventures. It extends far beyond that, made bigger by what I believe is the most imaginative fan-base there is for any franchise. So, for the 200th Art Challenge, I want to pay homage to that by depicting a fan dreaming, being creative and expanding the Trek universe. Here's what I've got so far...
Thanks, @Michael. I thought I might be a little further along by now, but that last image ended up a far more cutesy that I had in mind so I've reworked it. I'm much happier with this version:
For the "dream", I'm drawing on a few of my unrealised ideas that I've been storing up for years. Although, the main starship is more of a "what'll fit this space" concept. I just need to add some colour and I'll be done.
That's coming along nicely, as for that main ship, that one looks really interesting, love the way the pylons flow into the nacelles.
Thanks, @Santaman. Well, I think I'm done here. I couldn't think of a title of the top off my head so I've put in a Shakespeare quote for now, but then how can you better that, eh?
I love this, @Starscape! The quote makes it perfect. I want to say I have been that person in my live, but then again, I actually kinda still am.
What a fantastic idea! I love your diverse ships and shuttles, especially the main ship - yet another unique configuration (at least to me) of the traditional saucer, engineering hull and nacelles.
Thanks, everyone! In the spirit of my entry, I guess it's fitting that the inspiration for the asteroid-base was a thread on this board discussing how the TOS art team might've come up with for a drydock facility in the series. My thoughts were that they could've cut up the Yonada asteroid and combined it with a matt painting similar to the Starbase 11 one. Obviously, not much help if it was needed in S1, though. Fans of the Wing Commander video games might notice a similarity between the boxy ship and the Tarsus from Privateer - it seemed an obvious canditate for a Trek makeover. (I should've reaquainted myself with the design before drawing it here, I've modified it for my, new, final entry.) And the starship below the asteroid is based on ideas for, that old staple, a TOS-style Miranda. To capture the TOS look I think it needs to be far less box than the Reliant - one day I'll flesh it out some more. And the last little ship... it was orignally going to be based on Jefferies' workbee concept and it developed from there, rather wildly. Anyway, here is my final entry. No more tweaking!
