I mean, at the end of the day, you either find that kind of thing awesome, or you find it self-indulgent and pretentious.

As for whether or not the thing is a creative success overall... I mean, is that article that said the majority of people who tried to watch the Snyder cut dropped out after an hour and never watched the rest of it, still accurate?

 

I actually thought the slow motion was used really well in this. I enjoyed the excess of the battle scenes (that LOTR style flashback to Darkseid's first defeat was gloriously over the top, hampered only by Gal Gadot's flat narration) and the slow motion really let the viewer take in what was happening and revel in the craziness.

 

I saw the slow motion as Snyder showing comic book panels coming to life. That and the Flash scenes would be hard to do without it.

The good thing about "We Got This..." is that any time there's some potentially big news on this forum all you have to do is hover over the thread title, see the source, and just move on like it never happened. Because it didn't.

 

Just the title is idiotic. It reminds me "CBS doesn't want to let the fans know that the new Star Trek is a failure, so they continue to produce new shows and seasons to hide it".

 

Except slow motion has nothing whatsoever to do with comic book panels. Comic book panels do not show slow-motion movement; they show static images juxtaposed with one-another to create the illusion of movement in the readers' mind. Which is, incidentally, how film works, at a much faster scale beyond the ability of the human eye to consciously perceive.

Also there is nothing "panel"-like about the film. We don't see frames-within-a-frame the way, say, Ang Lee created comic book panels in 2003's Hulk. It's just slow-motion, imposed at arbitrary points in the narrative as part of Snyder's efforts to create an immersive mood for the scenes the slow-motion sequences are embedded in -- but these attempts at mood pieces are imposed mostly at creatively arbitrary points that consistently rob the film of its narrative momentum without establishing anything deeper in return.

Maybe, but he didn't need three minutes of slow-motion photography to show Lois getting a cup of coffee on a rainy morning.

Anyway, yeah the Flash sequences require the use of slow-motion photography for Barry's environment, but not for Barry himself. That's why I tend to refer to them as superspeed sequences rather than as slow-motion sequences.

I don't begrudge the use of slow-mo to convey how fast Barry is moving per se. The Barry-saves-Iris sequence worked really well! But even the superspeed sequences can be overdone (e.g., taking much longer to convey Bruce throwing his batarang at Barry in the 2021 cut vs. the 2017 cut).

 

The numbers for JL are easy to find through business and legitimate entertainment sources. Fan-created/centered sites have a long, bad history of posting anything for clicks, to fit their interests, or post wish fulfilment stories (see: The Quartering or Geeks and Gamers for a couple of examples), no matter the direction. Anyone remember how some sites and YouTube channels said "sources confirmed" that Steve Rogers was going to die in Infinity War? Or how about the endless, almost daily reports claiming Kathleen Kennedy was going to be fired by Lucas (she does not work for him) or Disney?

Yeah...

 

From my perspective, it seems as though the number of slow-motion sequences in his films has increased since 'Dawn of the Dead'. I can only think of two shots in that movie that were in slow-motion. In fact, I think the movie was pretty well-edited and well-paced. Maybe because it was his first feature film and he had to show that he could deliver a good movie. Now, it feels like he's been let off the leash and he's indulging in some of his worst tendencies. It will be interesting to see what his upcoming 'Army of the Dead' looks like - a fast paced heist/action movie or lots of slow-motion shots of characters with guns blazing and spent cartridges falling slowly to the ground.

Zack Snyder doing some interviews for his 'Army of the Dead' movie and of course Justice League comes up in these interviews. Here's what he said in one of the interviews.

"Warner Brothers have been aggressively anti Snyder."

That's a fairly strong statement. I know he's just saying what everyone thinks but I didn't think he would straight out say it.

 

Yeah, so aggressively anti-Snyder that they gave him seventy million dollars to finish his movie. That poor guy.

 

He might distinguish between Warner Brothers and HBO Max.

 

That's hush up money.

 

I can't tell if you're being serious, but how would that be hush money? They don't give him that money, that's the budget for post production on the film.
