    You know this one right?
A classic, so many great moment with this one.
I haven't played it in years though and there's some new updated version out or something?
Perhaps one day I'll revisit this classic.

Man, I couldn't disagree more. I hated FF8, from the godawful junction system to the absolutely miserable protagonist (Squall is all of the whininess of Cloud in FF7 multiplied by ten). About the only worthwhile thing I can say about the game is that at least you can break it--horribly--within a few hours by manipulating Triple Triad.

I guess we are from a little bit different era of playing. I got PS1 a little late and FF8 was already out. Playing FF7 and FF8 for the first time around the same time and comparing them it was a win for 8 the with graphics. Had I played FF7 way before FF8 things might have been different.

That's fair; FF8 certainly was a massive leap forward in terms of the visuals (and it had a team about double the size of FF7, whose crew had literally zero experience with 3D graphics--they were quite seriously learning on the job), but the gameplay and the characters just ruined it for me. It's hard for me to articulate just how much I detest the junction system, and Triple Triad was incredibly silly (really, its only value was in how it let you break the game like a motherfucker). I think the only Final Fantasy gameplay mechanic I have hated more was Blitzball, because ... well, Jesus. Fuck Blitzball.

FF8 being the first contact with Final Fantasy games the junction system makes sense to me. ;)

My issues with the game were the slow pace of combat and just not liking the characters.

I didn't mind the junction system, just regular attacks took 5-10 seconds to animate and it went exponentially up from there with no animation skip button.
