    Good Morning,

I was wondering if you folks had heard of Star Trek TOS's European competition:
    Raumpatrouille.
It's a German production similar to Star Trek. In German of course, but some of the episodes have been subtitled into English on YouTube. The original is in Black and White, but this morning I found one that's been colorized.

    Hope you enjoy!

    There is a colorized version?
Only ever saw the b/w original.

there are actually early plans for a sequel show.
A sort of Next Generation type story, tackling issues like global warming, scarce resources and general pollution.
The Drama might come from an interstellar war fighting for those resources.

if this comes to fruition, I hope there will be some decent character drama as well.
And hopefully they will shed all those sexist and racist undertones of the sixties that are the black Mark of the old series.

These autocolored videos are pretty bad though, with colors changing way too often.
I highly recommend the original version, but I never found a video with good subtitles.

Strangely, I´ve actually heard this one was VERY progressive, much more than TOS, in fact.

    It‘s different.
Second lead is a strong female character, introduced as a hard ass Shepard to keep an eye on the often rogue commander. But eventually she mellows and ends up his love interest, of course.
One of the seven episodes is dedicated to Earth‘s clash with a matriarchal society planet where men are basically without any rights, but dashing Commander McClane brings about change for more equality by charming their leader.

Some of the crew showcase old school patriarchal macho views in that very same episode, though they change their attitudes a little toward the end.

the whole crew is lily white, which is not surprising for 60s German TV but Lt Atan Shubashi is meant to be some sort of Asian character but of course is played by a German Caucasian, like everyone else.

All those were definitely non-issues for a 60s audience, but stick out for me and wouldn’t fly in today‘s tv landscape at all.

    OK, thanks for explaining.
Anyway... So there are plans for sequel show to Raumpatrouille Orion. But still no chance of Perry Rhodan on TV or in good movie...

    There´s no justice.

I know it quite well, I've got the whole series on DVD and it is rather fun.

That female security officer has the authority to order the guys around, and she uses it.
The leader of Earth's space fleet, and the hero's former boss, is a woman.
That planet led by women is shown as peaceful and advanced compared to militaristic Earth.
The head of the galactic intelligence service is a pacifist who criticizes the outdated mentality of Earth's generals who wanna shoot aliens before it's clear that they are enemies.

    Pretty progressive I'd say.

Wow....this was cool. And, given the time period, the effects were really good

Lol, that music is great. Makes me want to get out my Hofner bass and play along. Probably will do it too.
