The entire 50-years or so after TUC is essentially a blank slate, you could drop the first season in there without having to change hardly anything but Sarek's age, dates and Klingon backstory dialog.

Using the cross badge with the medical whites started with the Kelvinverse movies, so any misinterpretation lies with them, Discovery is just guilty of being consistent with that production (I suppose with the exception of always having the medics in their whites).

lol, that happened to me - I skip honorifics now.

I like Crusher in white, that looks good.

With regard to Geordie/engineering, I think a burnt orange might look a bit better than green - green seems more "biological".

Used the TOS trio for a start
    Conn (Nav/Helm/XO): Gold
    Engineering; Red
Science: Blue. Shifted Data to a sliver/grey to go better with blue
    Medical: Green
    Security: Grey
    Commanding Officer: Royal Blue

Yeah I would definitely cut back on the saturation with that one. More of a dark hunter green might be good there.

Green looks great! Picard's jacket version had a gray uniform underneath...

Thank you for sharing this. Security gray looks great (pun intended :rommie:). Plus, it makes sense to have a mitred color for tactical operations or away missions in the field.

Just to mess the color roulette further, purple is a regal color that could go for command. Medical scrubs in TNG were red - what if Crusher wore “medical red”?

Side note, in STO I usually used yellow/mustard/good for engineering, but orange for the Senior Operations Officer. I always felt that Data and Kim (and their staff) are engineers but totally outside the chief engineer’s chain of command.

In terms of playing with the Disco S4 uniform, I’d probably like to keep Vance’s uniform in the grey to keep admiralty stand out from non-flag officers.
Command could be purple, with the division stripe reflecting the officer’s affiliation with engineering (yellow), tactical (red), blue (science) - this is imitating how it works in STO where there’s no dedicated command division. By default, the department stripe is grey. Medical is white but has the blue stripe. #spacebarbie

    I like these.
Of course green was for command/navigation in TOS (but often became mustard on screen) and the blue became green in the later series...what a mess!

IMO, we've got at least five division colours available canonically, so I'd stick with them. So for the "main jobs" I'd either go with:

Engineering (inc Armory & Transporters): Red
Deck & Bridge (inc Security and Yeoman): Yellow/Gold
Command (CO, XO, Duty Officers): Green or White
Medical, Health & Life Sciences: Cyan (TOS Blue)
Space & Physical Sciences: Teal (ENT "Blue", DS9 to FC "Blue").

I’ve thought about this as well, although I would have made Sarek Spock, and made Burnham Spock’s foster daughter, not his sister, since Spock already had a history of having protégés such as Saavik and Valeris. Sarek had no such history until they retconned him into having it.

And I would have made T’Kuvma’s motivation as being resentful of Azetbur’s chancellorship and in opposition to the Federation’s aid after Praxis.

This could have been a great idea.

I don’t think they would have wanted to recast “old Spock” so soon after nimoy’s death, though.

I doubt his untimely death would have stopped them from making the story they wanted to make, if their intention was to recast him.

Yes, but it would still smack of insensitivity due to the timing.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t be insensitive. I said that it wouldn’t stop them from telling whatever story they wanted to tell.

Hmmmm. Interesting — hadn’t spotted that; thanks (or at least I don’t remember it...!).

I was largely unimpressed by the thin pyjama tops from ST(‘09) and really disliked the idea of splattering the delta badge all over them. The Beyond uniforms were better but needed the black collar.

It sometimes seems like they take too much from the Kelvinverse movies as a point of reference rather than going back to the original source material.

The sleeve ranks on the Discoprise uniforms were straight from the Kelvinverse and didn’t need to be. That aside, I thought those were the best yet in terms of a modernised update of the classic TOS uniforms. It’ll be interesting to see what they have done to tweak them again for SNW.

I always preferred the production TOS curly rank braids over the Cage/WNMHGB straight ribbons. I guess I felt it gave the uniforms a more interesting look, especially when you get up into the higher grades, like Commodore and above.

Oh, well... Different strokes, I guess...

I did too but the straight ribbons definitely look cleaner. But, TOS gave it a much more nautical feel which I much more prefer.

I hope that SNW does tweaks to the uniforms to have a different style to the rank ribbons, as well a better collar.

I think having a foster human daughter fits into Sarek's history of championing Vulcan-human relations. It seems like a logical (sorry) next step, raising a human in the Vulcan world.

Being Spock's foster daughter also would have been interesting. I thought about having that change in my post, but decided that Spock's post-TUC focus would have been more ambassadorial, completing his work on Klingon peace before switching his attentions to reunification with the Romulans. However, if his foster daughter was responsible for damaging peace with the Klingons would have been a cool storyline to explore.

They're from TOS, actually... or are they silver?

The ones in DSC are bars like the KT ones, not braids like TOS. Their colour also seems to match the department (except Science which is silver), but that could just be a reflection
    [IMG]

Why not? They look better than the TOS braids and are a lot more visible.
