Maybe it's a holoprogram and beating up Cardassians is her workout.
Which is concerning, but it would fit her character based off season 1.

 

Like Worf's calisthenics program, but recreating historical events that involved Picard and she gets to beat those Picard couldn't beat? XD

 

Riker feels out of character in lower decks. Like he is a little crazed. It's weird.

 

They took Riker, and focused on his comical side. An exaggeration for sure, to fit the setting and tone of the show.

Picard and TNG gave us the more rounded character.

 

He’s in line with how the other characters act. If we were to see Freeman in a series with real actors she would probably act less necrotic.

Since the show is from Boimler's point of view as well as being a comedy we are going to see more exaggerated side of characters.

 

The show's take on Riker seems based on how Riker was depicted in Mike McMahan's TNG Season 8. Some of those characteristics were also given to Ransom.

 

TNG Season 8 is to canon the same as Jeri Taylor's two Voyager novels or Michael Chabon's Medium notes.
