Oh, I don't think there's ever been any great danger of that happening.

Anyway, we're not here to talk about what fans do or don't do. Better if we simply stick to speculating re: movies about which we really know nothing at this point -- there's less potential to offend anyone that way. ;)

It has to be?! It couldn't be something else? I don't know the answer but I wouldn't limit the options like that.

Just because it's his production company, doesn't mean he'll be personally working on it.

JJ was a Producer on Beyond, but as far as I'm aware it was only a credit, he didn't actually do anything personally on the film.

Then it seems the folks over at StarTrek.com are just labeling everything as Star Trek Universe, in compliance. Kind of lame really; in that context it literally doesn't suggest anything different (What is it, it's a Star Trek movie. It's a Star Trek Universe movie. Oooooooooooh!) I'm sorry, but one has to admit that sounds pretentious. The next paragraph down they admit to not knowing whether it could be Kelvin or other.

It's absolutely possible Kurtzman Trek has taken over the movie franchise. It's just not a prospect I favor at all. If they could produce just one solid season of television (besides LDS) with a coherent, meaningful story I'd have more faith. I've been saying since they first announced STP they should shelve the franchise plans and just focus on making STD good... but they just keep adding more shows.

Abrams producing suggests a connection with the last three movies, which is good.

Because it's what they always do.

We know that it's not what you want. You're not going to get what you want. Because it's not what they do or ever have a reason to do.

    Question?
Are the kelvin sets still standing/in storage somewhere or have they been tossed?

    I highly doubt it.

Yes, but that’s the Enterprise-A, so you change everything because you can, and that’s assuming the -A does appear as opposed to, I don’t know, the -B at 1765.23 meters in length.

I found Beyond to be tonally indistinguishable from it's predecessors, leading me to think that either his hand was on it or that the powers that be just mandated more of the same.

I was optimistic for Beyond with Pegg writing it and JJ's stepping back. I won't be this time.

I found Beyond to be the best of the bunch.....aesthetically it looked similar but I think it was a much better story from Pegg. YMMV.

You did? Aside from reusing “Sabotage”, I thought it was as different as it could be, very much like INS following FC. The characters seemed bored and tired, not so enthusiastic and full of energy. With Orci gone, there was no attempt to do the Kelvin Timeline twist, where you take a Prime Timeline event but give it a flip or do something else you never would there. Mike Johnson had that in the IDW comics also, presumably because he was consulting with Orci for a time. There is no point to writing for the Kelvin Timeline if a story could just as easily be Prime.

There's no way Kirk Prime would have ridden around on a motorbike. It would have been a horse:lol:

Probably, but you gotta think more Twilight Zone than that. For example, we see a ship being built, we see the Enterprise destroyed, we just know what that final time-lapse will reveal… and it’s the Yorktown, NCC-1717! What?

Of course, it would’ve been named after the starbase, but it’s also the ship that conjecturally becomes the Enterprise-A in the Prime Timeline. It turns out there won’t be an A, B, C, D or an E here. It’s over. New ship, new name, or the name is used again eventually with a different number and no letter.

It felt completely different to me. It’s was best one if the three by far.

Star Trek 09 didn’t do that.

Well sets cost alot of money, even just redressing /remodeling them abit will save money, money that could be used elsewhere.

As for scripts, while I do sometimes like Redos of tos stuff, with the last 15 or so years of prequals, sequels etc. I just want something original not tied to a past idea from the series. I want the meta-series to move on.
