We are getting a sort of rework of the thrawn trilogy with the upcoming new series. Dave Filoni wouldn't have dropped the name in last series if l he wasn't going to appear as a vilan.

How closely it will follow the orginal though ? No idea.

With gideons cloning story line they may still go the cloning route and i wonder if he has turned Ezra Bridger.

Indeed. We know Thrawn will be in one of the upcoming Disney+ shows. Probably the Ahsoka series if I had to guess. Though it wouldn't surprise me if it had very little if any resemblance to the Thrawn Trilogy novels.

Anyone expecting Thrawn like the book Thrawn is probably going to be disappointed.

Then what's the point of bringing him back?

Plus there was never really anything wrong with thrawn or the orginal thrawn trilogy to begin with besides some rough edges.

Adopt the good bits and ditch the shit bits like any book to screen adaption.

The thrawn returning and going on a rampage with the imperial rements. Using cloning tec and exploiting force sensitivity and the Noghri story line would be interesting enough to see on screen.
And it clear they are going down the cloning and force exploitation route as seen in the mandalorian.

Its not all or nothing here.

Because adaptation involves changes. Its not about anything wrong but someone else bringing their interpretation of the character.

So, if it is all or nothing then it will likely be nothing like the book.

Do we know with 100% certainty he's going to be one of the shows?
And since it's doubtful any of these shows are going to involve Luke, Leia, and Han in any significant roles, I can't really see them doing a direct adaptation of the Legends books.
So far everything they've brought from the Legends stuff has been changed pretty significantly, and I can't see them doing any direct adaptations of Legends stuff at this point.
Whatever we do potentially get with Thrawn is probably going to be picking back up from where Rebels left off. With here that left him, and the stuff we got in The Mandalorian, I don't really see any way he could even be in the position he was in in the books.

You can't (shouldn't) do a remake or redo after we already had an authorized version of what happened. And it really wouldn't make sense with Hamill and Ford at their ages now let alone later and Fisher having died.

You're right that it doesn't make sense. Doesn't mean fans won't hope. Saw it with the prequels.

If they wanted to do a long term plan remake, they would remake OT to follow the PT with Ewan McGregor as Obi-wan "Ben" Kenobi and Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. Than, in many decades, the could do a remake of the ST with Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo.

They have to set on who would play Luke and Leia first. And, in all honestly, a full style remake of Star Wars original trilogy is fine by me. I love the OT and it has probably influenced by view of films far more than most franchises, aside from LOTR and Star Trek. But they are not sacred to the point that they cannot be remade with the idea of going back to the original story.

If they were to remake or reboot the franchise, which is not going to happen, then I would rather just seem them start the whole thing over in chronological order. Start with the Prequels and go through the Original Trilogy and then the Sequels. I'd also play around with the timeline a bit if I was the one in charge. I'd stick with the 20ish year between the new Prequels and Originals, but then I'd do set the Sequels closer to the Originals, maybe just five or 10 years.

We probably will get a Disney remake of the OT starting in 2027 or 2029.

    This is never happening.

Also, I really wish people would quit invoking the term "Disney" when they really mean Lucasfilm, and I also really wish people would stop acting as if the Walt Disney Corporation is this all-controlling overseer that tells Kathleen Kennedy how to do her job.

The better to distinguish it from the previous films, especially as Disney Star Wars is a lot more than just the Sequel Trilogy.

To be fair, this is not just a STAR WARS thing. You see it with any beloved fictional property: Star Trek, Planet of the Apes, Godzilla, Ghostbusters, comic books, etc. There are always going to be purists and generational schisms and sectarian debates about what constitutes a "real" Perry Mason series, etc. Trust me, there are still comics fans who are bitter about "Crisis on Infinite Earths" wiping away the old DC comics continuity back in the eighties. And folks who insist that it's not "really" a Godzilla movie unless the big lizard is played by a man in a rubber suit. And these debates can get just as passionate and occasionally ugly as any arguments over THE LAST JEDI or whatever.

Somewhere on the internet, even as we speak, folks are surely arguing about whether MARY POPPINS RETURNS is "canon" or not. :)

The only thing that's new these days is the explosion of spurious "news" sites hyping ridiculous rumors in order to monetize nerd rage.

I know you and reality parted ways a long time ago, but that's how it works.

Really? They are telling her daily what her job is? Damn, that's some micromanagement on a whole new level.

Lucasfilm is owned by Disney, so why is this a problem?

Disney also owns ABC, ESPN, and Marvel, but no-one has ever tried to criticize or dismiss their operations and output by referring to them as "Disney".

No, that's not how it works.

Disney executives who are higher up the chain than Kathleen Kennedy are not constantly hanging around Lucasfilm's offices or sending her emails dictating how she runs the company.

There's no such thing as " Disney Star Wars"; there's just Star Wars.
