I was wondering about this...I saw the title, but kept reading it as Syphilis

So..... what would your parental rating be for it? Netflix can Be wildly inaccurate sometimes. They listed Itaewon Class as TV MA, but I would give it away PG 13. My 15 year old would like it but wondering about my 10 year old girl

If you allowed your 10 yr old to watch any MCU film, then I'd say this shouldn't be a huge problem. 1) it is an action show, with copious amounts of stunts, gunplay and fight sequences. 2) violence level-feels borderline PG 13 (for a couple of shocking deaths). Netflix has listed it as TV 14, so I'd say that's about right. As always, Parental mileage may vary.

Ooo no I haven't watched Start Up but someone just recommended it to me. I had ignored it thinking it was super romance and the person who recommended it is definitely on the romance train. I will check it out though. I'm currently watching Gracious Friends which is like a soap opera on crack and Sisyphus so checking out Start Up works well as far as balanced viewing goes lol.

I fell down that rabbit hole some years back and only emerge for Star Trek these days

I'm now all caught up on Sisyphus and I have to say this show is going from strength to strength. Most recent episode was fantastic.

As to the rating, I would say it depends on the child. Here's what I think could be potentially problematic:

Realistic skeletons, as in decayed bodies post apocalypse style in cars, buildings etc.. only you know if this is going to be disturbing. They are there to drive home what's happened at some point so they do have emotional impact and are used judiciously for that purpose.

People die and there is lots of sadness on a (IMO) more realistic level than Marvel, in part because Kdramas do linger on the feelings, and scenes which evoke these feelings.

People are shot right in the head, chest etc.. and die, in a more direct way than machine gunning down enemies a protagonist is fleeing from (which there is plenty of as well). It's confronting. It's not the Sopranos but it's something that shocks the viewer.

There are some very grotesque scenes with distorted bodies (think TMP transporter accident) that are definitely yuck and scary looking.

i don't think ANY of this is vicarious and I do think it all serves a good, dramatic purpose. So it depends on your child I think. I don't think it's really a child show, I'd wait until the early teens at least, but maybe your kid has been raised on the Walking Dead and it is all cool

Finally finished Sisyphus. I liked it a lot. Definitely part of the Terminator legacy, and pretty well done. Some great action sequences particularly in the first several episodes. Thought it dragged a bit from ep 9-11, but picks up steam again with some of the reveals.

The actor who played Gang Seo-hae, I liked quite a bit. She conveyed the sadness of her situation very well.. Also really liked the actor who played the “henchman/buddy” of Han Tae-sul was great. The reveal about his family situation was great.

I loved the ending. Thanks for the recommendation. I highly recommend.

OH good! I'm so glad you liked it!

I've been steadily watching Kdramas since my last post in this thread in March. I can't remember them all now but I'll do a review later of each.

Anyone else still about watching them?

My wife is watching Arnthal Chronicles... not too bad. Though it feels like one of the Supernatural Martials Arts movies form China (though showing a pre-Korean Korean-ish society)

I will be the dissonant voice here : I didn't like Sisyphus very much. I anticipated this kdrama and I found it boring and incoherent. I fast forwarded all actions scenes.

I watched a few kdramas last spring and from all of them, Beyond Evil was my favorite by far : not an innovative story but well written and excellent cast.
Taxi Driver was entertaining at the beginning even if (in my opinion) morally dubious.

I started Black Hole. The plot was intriguing and the cast is good but I put it on hold after 6 episodes because it was so slow. I will maybe finish it one day.

I also completed Kingdom and I really liked it. I am looking forward to Ashin of the north.

I haven't picked any other kdrama for the moment, nothing caught my interest (big lie, I have a list of things to watch ;) ) and I rather watch Korean movies right now. One list at a time ;)

Watched Extracurricular, very popular in Korea.

Watched it and hated it and watched it and regretted it.

Can't hack the core theme, high school girls prostituting themselves. Supposedly noble main as the pimp gets zero sympathy.

Fast paced. Well done. Ultimately felt weird.

    Uuugh. That sounds neato.
Not Kdrama but binged PeteCapaldis The Thick of It. I mostly love it for the sweariness and watching him chew up scenery. The rest of the cast is good too.

So who is watching/watched Squid Game? Netflix's most popular ever show or something like that?

If you have watched it NO SPOILERS, or use spoiler tags.

I have now power watched it to avoid spoilers. It was good. I am not overwhelmed by how great it was like seemingly 99% of viewers, but I feel like I've seen too many things like it and the Korean element is now so familiar to me that I see some of the Kdrama tropes in it that maybe viewers new to Kdramas don't see as tropes.

I REALLY liked that it doesn't do that whole onion peeling conspiracy Lost thing. It's a straightforward story in its own way.

The same person wrote and directed every episode!

It's very violent. It's very bingeable. It has been the first Kdrama numerous friends and acquaintances of mine have watched, yes years of my gently suggesting Kdramas to them meant nothing but social media buzz meant everything

When the guy in the black mask took off his mask I was taken completely out of the moment by who it was "IT'S MR. SUNSHINE!!!!!!" yes I know this is a famous Korean actor but.. I had such an emotional attachment to mr. sunshine it was quite wtf!

Must not click the spoiler tag. Must not click the spoiler tag. Must not click the spoiler tag. Maybe I’ll try it tomorrow for treadmill time! I’ve heard a lot about this - I think I might have to watch it!

I'm honestly in SHOCK at people I know who are watching this. I'm hoping that means they are open to watching other Kdramas. Even people who have absolutely resisted subtitles have watched it.

Arched the first episode of Squid Game and it was okay enough to bring me back for more. I’ll comment further as I go.

I was going to start a separate thread for this, but I'm glad others are talking about it here.

This show is completely bonkers. I'm really not sure how to describe it. It started out reminding me of Battle Royale, but smarter and more dramatic. It also makes me think of MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge).

The ending screams for continuation, but from what I've read, that's not in the cards at the moment.

I'd love to see this (in spoilers because it alludes to the ending):
Present day, Seong Gi-Hun disappears after failing to board the plane to see his daughter and getting back into the game to discover who else was behind it. 20 years later, his daughter, aided by the little brother of one of the fallen figure their way into the game to discover what happened to their family members and destroy the game.

    But I'm open to suggestions.
Let's see how long it takes before others try to clone this concept.
