It was fine. I'd give it a B- or so. Pretty much exactly what I was expecting.

I don't really see how it's so much different from the other shows.

It's a maudlin slice-of-life dressed in nerd dinner jackets and draped in corporate-safe pseudo progressivism. And there's lots of Easter eggs rolling around the table that are usually charming but can some times feel self-congratulatory in a 'See what we did there?' way.

    Same as all the others.

I guess there's a grayer filter on the lens?

I do like how they're keeping it separate from everything else. Frankly, I wouldn't mind if they just left it be it's own thing. The entre CW verse is just become way too convoluted for its own good.

How long before we see Jordan playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

I thought the actor playing Jordan looked a little like Chris Reeve from some angles.

Except this "Captain Luthor" is black.

Yeah this Luthor is played by Wolé Parks.

No reason Luthor Jr. couldn't be black in the Arrowverse.

So what? He's from an alternate universe. We know from Crisis that alternate counterparts don't have to look alike -- for instance, the Earth-96 Superman is from a universe where Perry White looks like Frank Langella, while the Ezra Miller Flash is from a universe where Perry White looks like Laurence Fishburne. And the Earth-90 Barry Allen is from a world where Iris West looked like Paula Marshall and was a generation older than Earth-Prime's Iris. So there could easily be some black Lex Luthors out there.

Of course, there are also mixed marriages and adoptions, so even a white Lex could have a black or biracial son.

There may be universes where Perry White is a noncorporeal gaseous creature. Why not?

Does Perry also write for the Daily Mail in this universe?

Oh, so maybe we'll sometimes get 5 minutes of Superman action in between generic teenage bullshit you can find in the average CW show. Add a few minutes of setup for the villain, and almost 10 minutes of a 40 minute show could possibly be about Superman. Well, I guess that technically beats Lois & Clark, but Superman/Clark and Lois should get the majority of the screen time and plot, so the problem with the show stands. They should have just stolen the title of a recent DC comic and called it Super Sons (which I know was about John Kent and Damien Wayne, but the title fits here, too), since at least the show wouldn't be false advertising.

It would still be teen drama shit, but it wouldn't be lying. It also wouldn't draw in as many people though, so the lying title makes sense from that perspective. Not a lot of new viewers are going to give a CW show a chance if it advertises that its literally just a generic crappy CW show with a bit of a Superman themed paintjob.

Still haven't watched the show, I take it?

Or he may've hoped kids would get him to give up his powers like that Superman he recently met.

Thanks: doesn't play on my work computer, but I'll try again after work.

I watched it with my twins--whose personalities currently are less extreme versions of Jordan and Jonathan. We all enjoyed it immensely, except that my twins couldn't get beyond the idea that the kids never figured out their dad was Superman. Until I took off my glasses.

Really, for you watching works of fiction designed to entertain is something akin to torture. There isn't anything else more pleasurable than watching TV shows which inexorably you will hate?

I had a thought this morning -- since the producers have said there will be more flashbacks to Superman's past (in the new Earth-Prime continuity, of course), I wonder if we might see Warren Christie's Bruce Wayne show up in a flashback or two.

You don't watch it, so who cares about your granular analysis of what you're concerned may or may not be wrong with future stories that you have no intention of seeing?

I cannot disagree with you there, since some are so rattled about "their" favorite whatever not being praised / actually analyzed instead of hand-waving / states of giddiness, that they lash out.

    Interesting.

Berlanti version of progressivism can be an issue, when they attempt to address subjects it is clear they know nothing about (many an episode of Supergirl), but it remans to be seen how much of that will find its way into Superman and Lois.

It seems a few filters were used to give this Smallville-based show the look of one of Andrew Wyeth's paintings, while separating it from the colder tones of a city like Metropolis. If it appears "darker" overall, that gives the show its own look, which will be a good thing.

    True.

Apparently: not watching them then complaining about them anyway.

You're on a board where one member watched the entire broadcast of Enterprise just to tell everyone how much he hated it before and after every episode.

That line has been my favourite as well, it's just so Superman. I knew it was coming with the way the scene was set up and the episode completely won me over in that one instant. Nice to have Superman back on my screen!

Loved the episode, finally watched it last night. All this talk of ratings is funny considering I don't know a soul that watches anything live, and I'm old!

Injured Superman falling back to earth after also being stabbed by a kryptonite knife? Superman Returns did that before Snyder. Nice try, though.

My work schedule pretty much eliminates watching any Prime Time show live. I had to watch S&L over two evenings after the premier aired. Always at least a day late.
