I was tickled pink to see it, the Fleischer costume is my favorite version of the suit.

Frankly, I am surprised at the mixed reactions to the pilot. Anyway...

Black Lightning earned that distinction right out of the gates, which is why its the far and away best DC live action TV series airing today, and arguably in TV history.

Superman still has enemies, and one who knows his true identity, so you can be sure he's not through "Superman-ing". But it must be remembered that he's a husband and parent, so if he's responsible, he will lean toward his main life obligations. Now, having said that, the series could dip into typical CW whine-a-thon territory by having Clark become so involved with Edge and Luthor's schemes that he breaks his promise to be there for his kids.

...that's a great thing. We had an entire film channeling Donner / being a would-be continuation in Superman Returns, and that was a misguided mess.

Aside from Benoist's pregnancy, and the coronavirus having an influence on when and how she worked, this series may be trying to establish itself as being a very different "animal" than Supegirl (and the rest of the DC-CW shows), but I maintain that she might drop in toward the end of her own series with a plot that's tied to S&L's.

Agreed. For a guy who is sensitive about keeping his caped life a secret, storing the ship at the fortress would be the obvious solution. If his kids found / explored that cellar and found the ship with zero difficulties, anyone else could do the same.

 

It's injustice, you can tell from Superman's outfit and the stage.

This also isn't the first time it has appeared in the CW shows. You see William playing it in Arrow Season 6.

If you actually watched the bloody episode, that's not what it is. Some of that is in there, but it isn't the focus. Lois and Clark get a lot of screen time.

He and Lois were in most of the episode. They play a major part. Superman did a lot of superman things.

How about you watching the bloody thing instead of talking about stuff you know zero about.

 

You’re wasting your (virtual) breath. Taking over-the-top negative positions about things, sight unseen, is kirk55555’s entire brand. It’s all about his idiosyncratic prejudices and presumptions. The actual show is beside the point.

 

5s being unhappy with something is an universal constant. If he did find something he liked without complaint the universe may be torn asunder.

I liked the pilot. I love the idea of Superman as a dad, something the comics had started doing in recent years. I didn't notice many ties to the greater Arrowverse, but I'm guessing that Captain Luthor is from one of the universes that got destroyed during Crisis and blames Superman.

 

It seems that way, but it's odd, since I presume the destroyed universes were all restored. I mean, there's no way they were going to say "Sorry, folks, but the universes of Batman '66, Batman '89, Smallville, Lucifer, etc. were all destroyed." And apparently the entire Lucifer series is considered post-Crisis. So we know more universes got put back than just the ones we saw in the epilogue. And there's no reason to doubt they were all put back, even if Earth-2 ended up very different judging from Stargirl.

 

Well, since nothing is perfect, no one can actually like something with literally no complaint. Even the best stuff has weaknesses or flaws.

But, I genuinely love a lot of stuff. Not a lot of current stuff I suppose, but going over all the TV shows, movies, books, comics, games, etc that I do really enjoy would be a several page essay. The MCU alone is 90% awesome. Its funny to me that I can be someone who even enjoys films like Thor 2 or Rise of Skywalker but still get told I hate everything from people who don't know shit about me. I'm not going to list all the stuff I really enjoy, I'd probably forget a bunch of stuff anyway, but this statement is just wrong.

The actual show is what its all about. I'm basically never wrong when it comes to how I feel about a show/movie, its just that the Happiness Patrol doesn't like it when people disagree with them. Never say anything that goes against the norm, or you get shit for it. I'm used to people complaining about it, but speaking your opinion isn't breaking any forum rules, so

Some peoples "entire brand" is whining when people don't agree with them, but I don't let that bother me enough to give in to their demands to shut up.

Even one second of any teen drama or romance is too much and automatically disqualifies the show from ever being watched for me, and I know it has that stuff based on what I've read online.

Also, its the pilot. Of course they'll pretend its a Superman show when trying to get people into the show. Give it a few episodes, and Superman will have about as much screentime as The Atom's suit or Nate's powers got on Legends of Tomorrow, aka a few minutes per season and never in 90% of the situations that would call for him.

 

With respect to the wish for Clark Kent to be a father/family man; believe it or not I tend to think that came from Lex Luthor and not Kara.

If there's one thing Lex knows it's hell having a family can really screw things over for you and make life miserable In certain situations<--- and I'm sure he did it thinking he's going to really mess up Superman's life and make life easier for him in the long run whenever he tries one of his schemes.

 

I think that's far too cynical to be appropriate for this show. It may be showing that being a father is challenging for Clark, but I don't think it's coming from the mentality that it's a nightmare for him.

 

It was refreshing to see that the producers eschewed taking an "ABC Afternoon Special" approach to the behavior of the young teenagers at the party - no moralizing, no rationalizing, no "responsible parental figure" scripted in there to make the network's perfunctory disavowal of somehow possibly being interpreted as not decently horrified by underage drinking, etc. That the producers were somewhat conscious of the territory they were getting into thematically was clear from Sarah's "Are we going to go all Euphoria here" lantern-hanging.

 

That might be more of an Arrowverse thing than a CW thing, I watch Legacies, which is set at a high school, and the kids there party with booze all the time without the show making an issue of it.

 

They've set up a villain only Superman can fight. We're going to be seeing more.

I’ve always thought Earth 2 is different now because it wasn’t destroyed during Crisis. It was destroyed as the test long before and for whatever reason couldn’t be restored as it was

 

I do wonder just how different it is, though. I mean, what we saw of the old Earth-2 was mostly Central and Starling Cities, while Stargirl is in Blue Valley. I don't remember how much was established about Earth-2's history, but is it possible they had a Justice Society? Okay, if they'd had a Jay Garrick Flash in the past, that would've created some problems for the impostor Jay, so it's probably changed in some ways, but maybe there are a lot of things about the two Earths-2 that can be reconciled. Maybe there's a way SG's Earth-2 could be seen as a modified version of the pre-Crisis one, like how Earth-Prime is modified, rather than a complete replacement.

 

An interesting theory out there is that “captain Luthor” is actually the missing Crisis character, Alexander Luthor Jr. The son of a heroic Lex Luthor who fought an evil Superman.

Oh, so maybe he thinks Superman is the bad guy? Interesting. Although I don't see how they could sustain that, since it wouldn't take much observation to determine that Superman-Prime is heroic.

Well... unless he thinks Superman is a villain masquerading as a hero. Which... is what Prime Lex Luthor is currently doing. I'm getting dizzy.
