Have you met fans? Because, this has become the drumbeat. If fans can do it better then obviously it must be redone..

No, I doubt anyone here is that. So what?

I didn't say he would. You're either accidentally or intentionally ignoring what I am actually saying. Which was that it made no sense to me to put a wig on him with a hairline so dissimilar to Data's, thus making it necessary for them to alter it digitally.

Spiner agreed to digital de-aging. He mentioned it multiple times during interviews.

regardless of a person's credentials, everyone has a Stinker every now and then, I prefer to chalk it up to a tight schedule and little prep time rather than incompetence on his part. the Hairpiece never seemed to be right during filming, either a bit to far back and too round, or to low and too round, the lack of color on the lips is one that I would think is a booboo, he's always had some color to his lips. The Fellow is not responsible for that bad digital Fix on the hair, which never looks right. it was never going to be just one or the other, Makeup or Digital De-aging, was always going to be a combo, and although it could have been considerably better, the cleanup work on the face was mostly good and serviceable enough, the hair though, goodness

of course, ultimately, the incorrect hairline is a purely a technical thing, and has nothing to do with the fact that Brent Aged, accurate hairpieces are done all the time, an actor having aged is not an excuse for the work on a hairpiece, be it practical, digital, or both.

The cheap cosplay uniform is another disappointment.

Do you think this deepfake version of Data looks good?

People on Youtube love this video. But I think the quality of the deepfakes is pretty low compared to other youtubers.

Maybe so, yet it is still better than the original which cost millions to make. A few additional touches here and there and it will be almost perfect

Not fully. The eyes are weird and stand out way too much.

The first clip in the vineyard looks pretty decent I thought, even more so as still images. The rest not so much.

    The Problem with deepfakes:

    1. Low resolution (although it's getting better and better)
    2. They don't work in certain angles.
    3. No control over the expression (eyes can look weird)
    4. It's hard to replicate the lighting of the original source (especially hard shadows and specular highlights)

It's still a powerful technology. But you have to do a lot of post-editing and blending to achieve a satisfying result. A combination with 3D models might also be necessary in some cases.

The makeup looked like crap. His lips were nearly gone and he had an old man chin. We didn't need to see data again. He already had his death. They spent 10 episodes in basically a data story. Spinner looked terrible as data. Pretty much a nightmare version of the data we knew.

"Nightmare" must mean differnet things to different people.

We don't need to see any of this again. Not one bit. So don't watch it. It's unneeded.

I was one of the fans who held the franchise up when it wasn't mainstream. Guys like you who only came on board when it became mainstream with Abrams have no stake put in it. The fans who stuck with the franchise all those years deserve much better then what we are getting.
