Facebook’s algorithms are garbage, and so are many of its users. There are a lot of Trumpers out there who will call anybody anything at any time, but as soon as you react in anything but the kindest of ways, they go crying to Daddy Zuck that they’re being “bullied.”

For SOME reason, when you report THEIR insults, they never quite end up violating any standards.

I seriously just got a ban for using the term “joining OkStupid” to describe someone claiming he was leaving FB for Parler.

Looks like I now have access to something called the Oversight Board which I can dispute their warning and write out an argument. I wanted to be snarky and ask them if they flagged it because they think white nationalism is good, but I didn't.

My evangelical friend is sad that there are Christians who don't treat Trump with dignity and respect. What's funny is that she's probably one of the most fire and brimstone evangelicals out there. You're going to hell, and you're going to hell, and you're going to hell. But not Trump. Apparently homosexuality is worse than sedition.

Kirstie Alley is in two cults at the same time. How does that even work? What determines which one gets precedence at a particular moment?

Look, I'm all for impeaching Trump, but I heard that they're not going to do it until he leaves office.

WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT, then?

Just rewrite the lyrics. I did that for Good King Wenceslaus, We Three Kings, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, years ago.

    They're Star Trek-themed, of course. :)

Hm. My profile picture is one of my cats. So would that mean I'd need to find a picture of another cat that resembles her, or would just any human photo do?

    Scientology and which other one?

(there are a lot of people wondering about Elisabeth Moss - how she can be a Scientologist and star in and produce The Handmaid's Tale at the same time)

5 phone calls in the last half hour, all from different spoofed numbers, all the same "we has found suspicious activity in your iCloud account" robot scam spam.

I swear to all the Evil gods, if I ever become a billionaire I will devote my life and fortune to hunting down and viciously, horrifically murdering every goddamn scam spammer on the planet.

Okay no, I'll probably devote it to hedonism and 3d-printed model starships, but I'll make a few disappear, then have people spread the rumor that I'm hinting them all down, maybe that will bring the numbers down a bit.

At what point is it okay to start full on blocking relatives on Facebook instead of just unfollowing them?

My uncle has apparently made the transformation from conspiracy theory spouter to full on racist.

There was this news story about Kyrie Irving skipping games. I made a remark like “I wish I could skip work when I don’t feel like going and still get paid.” He replied “Of course you couldn’t, last I checked you were Caucasian”.

Like, wow, he’s gone full on self-persecutorial. And yeah, pretty sure I could get more leeway skipping work because I’m white enough to get benefit of doubt. I just happen not to be a celebrity millionaire.

I'd say that point would be where you no longer feel like you can, or desire to, talk to them outside of FB either. I had to make the same decision with my brother a couple of years ago, and he's not even a conspiracy theorist or a racist — just a very vocal and aggressive right-winger. I don't even disagree with everything he says; I just got really tired of hearing him! I finally decided I still wanted to talk to him outside FB as long as he dialed it down, and I just put him on "unfollow" so he wouldn't keep cluttering up my timeline.

How much he has dialed it down IRL is still in question.

The thing about not inviting him to family functions is that my liberal dad who blames the ‘Brainwashing’ instead of him would be offended.

And it’s complicated that he has legit issues with bipolar disorder.

Oh, I'm not trying to advise your interactions. I'm just saying the point where that comes into question is where you may have nothing to lose by blocking or unfriending him.

Also worth mentioning for the sake of full disclosure he didn't say a single negative thing when my sibling came out as trans. (Not yet, at least)

that's a difficult decision. If I were in that situation, I'd speak with him IRL and find out if he's really racist or if his bipolar disorder was speaking there. If he's genuinely racist and can't be convinced to rethink it, it might perhaps be advisable to block him. Firstly, it might perhaps make him change his opinions if he sees how serious you are, and secondly, many employers nowadays check their current and future employees' social media accounts and certain connections might look bad on your CV.

Frustration today: my blood sugar levels are getting out of control lately. I am scared of needles and now have to prick my fingers several times per day. I hope I get a grip on either of the problems really soon. My fingertips look as if I had wrestled with a hedgehog, lol :)

Sorry about hedgehog wounds. Is there any way to get one of those doodads that have a sensor you can stick to the back of your arm that can be read by your smart phone? My dad was about to get one before he died.

  18. its a bit random, but i had just brushed my teeth in the shower, and while i was doing that

Yeah, Orange Juice and toothpaste (Doesn't seem to matter which brand) are definitely not a good mix.
