Mando without the Kid is like Knight Rider without the car. I refuse to believe F&F would be dumb enough to get rid of him. At most I can see is an extended absence at the beginning of season 3. He'll get all his basic training done by the time Mando gets to Bespin.
Even 5 years after the official death of the Empire, the dude was still a lowly shuttle pilot. He was probably coming and going from the DS all the time flying shuttles. The bigger question, as many have already discussed, is Bib Fortuna. Did he just see where the wind was blowing and head immediately for an escape hatch?
Had the season had less of the cameos and callbacks (Katan, Fett, Ashoka), the finale appearance would have carried much more weight. Instead, as entertaining as it was, it still feels like they're checking boxes.
Well told stories generally should have a definitive end. This part of Grogu and Dyn's story together is over, others begin. Personally I applaud Jon & Dave for having the integrity to put story ahead of profits. Also let's get real, it's not like they're going to stop selling Grogu merch, and eventually interest would have waned so best to end it on a high note.
I know it is Legends but it still works well for me. In the "Tales from Jabba's Palace" anthology discusses Bib's efforts to overthrow Jabba, and that he indeed escape away from the barge when the battle began. The story ends much differently but I can see him plotting against Jabba to take over, and seizing the opportunity that Luke and CO. presented to assert his power. Yes, it is very formulaic.
I think it's reasonably to assume most of Jabba's court just jumped off the sail barge before it blew. By the time Leia was done throttling Jabba that aft cabin was all but deserted. We see a lot of them running around, but only the guards showed up on deck for Luke to cut down, so where else could they have gone but overboard? And I checked. Bib is last seen right before the fight breaks out and (unless I missed a shot) never again after. Hell, he was probably the first to do a runner!
Wow, that was a great finale even before the end. I didn't notice until a couple minutes afterwards, but once Boba left it was Din and three women kicking ass. I thought was pretty cool. My mom was watching with me, and we spent the whole scene as Luke worked his way through the Darktroopers, if was actually going to be him. I'm not sure about her, but I was in absolute shock that it was. I never expected to actually see him this early in the show. This definitely opens up a lot of questions about Grogu's fate from this point on. I was actually pretty shocked at how good Luke looked. It wasn't totally photo realistic, but it was still pretty good for a TV budget. I'm very curious to see where they go from here. I find it hard to believe that this really is the last we've seen of Grogu. Those are actually both from Laika, the same people who did Missing Link. The stuff with Ventress didn't happen on the show, that happened in the novel Dark Disciple. It was based on an unproduced story arc from The Clone Wars final season. According to the credits he did the voice, while Max Lloyd Jones was the body. Was that Bo-Katan or Koska Reeves that got shot? I saw one of the ladies in blue get shot, but couldn't tell for sure which of them it was.
It's not a coincidence that someone on another sci fi/fantasy show made an exit this week too. Coming in 2021... The Georgiou and Grogu Chronicles.
Great Episode, great series. My favourite Sci-Fi series for the last few years. Luke was convincing enough for me and until I saw one hand with a glove and the other without, I thought "Could it really be him?" And I cheered!
BTW, the opening with Slave 1 chasing down the imperial shuttle and then seeing the scenes of tie fighters being launched was so beautifully done. The one thing that didn't make much sense during their plan and then the episode. Why did they think sucking the darktroopers into space would remove them from the fight? We had found out they are complete droids, we have seen them flying with self-propolsion, and we know droids can survive/work in space. I am going to assume they believed they could space them before being charged.
BTW: green > blue. I don't mean in a strictly aesthetically pleasing color sense, but there's just something about the vibrant saturation of the green that makes it pop off the screen. I've always thought so, but it's more noticeable with modern colorization on a LED TV.
When the X-Wing appeared I actually assumed at first it was Dave Filoni or his buddy again from the New Republic to help out. Then I was like "noooo, noooo, no wayyyy" I can see why as well they had to have Boba just fly off. Had he been there on the bridge that could have been an awkward moment! And also put me in the "never cried at Star Wars till today" column.
The good-bye scene between Grogu and helmet-less Din was a beautiful moment. Hell, this whole episode is pretty much perfect television.
Survive, sure. But removing them out of the fight even for the moment would be helpful. It's not like they could get back in without being noticed.
