It is in my opinion too similar to be a coincidence. But the tune and the dynamic is different. Of course that wouldn’t be a miracle if the melody was washed through possibly 900 years of cultural changes
Man, people really want the Calypso Disco to be in the nebula. And the motivation seems to be fix an continuity "error".
Listen to the Fred Astaire song and tell me it is not the same can’t be a coincidence that calypso disco likes Fred Astaire and this music resembles one of his greatest hits and also This Song fits into the mood of this short trek
Let's see Runaway- Yes. Po and her planet reappear in season two of Disco Calypso-No ( as of this writing) The Brightest Star- Yes. We revisit Kanimar The Escape Artist- No. Though it features Mudd Q & A- No. Though Pike, Spock and Number One appear The Trouble With Edward- No. Though Pike has a brief cameo Ask Not- No. Though Pike is featured. Ephraim and Dot- No. The Girl Who Made the Stars-No. Though it features Michael, I don't recall a direct link. Children of Mars- Yes. It's a direct prequel to Picard.
I’m hoping it’s something way out of left field that we’ve never seen before. I don’t like having my theories validated, I like being genuinely surprised.
Is there any chance that the Calypso timeline won't happen now because Discovery went into the future? Maybe it belongs in some other part of the multiverse?
Agreed, but we all know that because of that one visual with the registry numbers, it will be debated to death.
If it turns out to be that, I'm going to confused as to why Burnham didn't compare the music to anything in Discovery's database.
The show could end right now and never explain Disco Calypso, but Calypso could still fit into continuity. That is, there is no particular reason right now that it could not fit later. So there is no continuity problem; just continuity that is currently undefined. And it doesn't necessarily need to be defined in order for it to remain "not a problem."
