My 13 year old questioning son is all over the Adira/Grey storyline. That's what he's most engaged in and excited about (he also picked up on the Calypso hints and loves the idea of a sentient ship - for him it's something new since he's not familiar with Andromeda or Farscape yet).

I think that the choice to make Adira a teen and not an older more accomplished person pre-joining was actually a good one. Representation matters, and I do think it's helpful to show characters in varying stages of their inner development, working through their own personal issues. He also quite likes Wesley in TNG, even though I find the character annoying to watch most of the time.

I found Adira's earnestness and uncertainty endearing and nicely nuanced. So far she hasn't been presented as some kind of Wunderkind who instantly knows better than other crew members. In fact, I like her wondering what she contributes vs the other host's memories and skills. Note: I am using 'she' for now, since that is how the character is portrayed on the show and will adjust accordingly.

I am convinced that it is a blooper that they decided to keep.

It was not a blooper. He screwed up on purpose to make people feel better.

You do realize that they are giving Michelle Yeoh her own Star Trek series to headline right? It's one I'm certainly looking forward to.

That's literally 1 show out of how many shows are being currently produced in Hollywood?

That's literally 5 different people or groups of people.

Hollywood alone produces 532 Scripted TV shows in 2019
    https://www.statista.com/statistics/444870/scripted-primetime-tv-series-number-usa/

5/532 ~= 0.94% of Hollywood TV has Asians in some form of Lead Capacity.

    https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045219
Yet approximately 5.9% of the US is Asian.

This isn't even counting movies or other media.

I'm sure there are more that I'm unaware of.
Are Asians under represented? Yes. But the census will never be what Hollywood goes to when figuring out what shows to produce.

Maybe that needs to change and they should look at the census. It actually has meaningful data to pull from.

Not gonna happen, no matter how good it might sound.
Would you apply that to other countries as well?

Michelle Yeoh is a Series Regular on DSC (despite not appearing in every episode) and receives 'top dollar' billing whenever she appears (actors who have their names listed after an 'and', 'with' or 'Special Guest' tag are considered to be among the most important members of a television cast).

She's also getting a spinoff as previously noted.

    • Melissa O'Neil plays one of the lead characters in ABC's The Rookie. O'Neil has a Chinese (Hong Kong) Mother and a Irish father. Her TV character is Chinese-American with a Chinese last name (Lucy Chen).
    • David Lim plays Chinese-American cop Victor Tan as one of the main ensemble roles in CBS's S.W.A.T.
    • Kenneth Choi is in another ensemble main cast in FOX's 911
    • Yet another show with a main cast of ensemble actors is Chicago Med with Brian Tee, who is a Korean-Japanese-American born on Okinawa.
    • Tim Kang is of Korean descent, but he plays Gordon Katsumoto on Magnum P.I., which sounds like a Japanese name.
    • The Blacklist had a new agent in the main cast last season named Alina Park played by Laura Sohn.
    • Elementary ended two seasons ago, but it starred Lucy Lui.
Granted, none of those (except Lucy Lui, whose show is not longer on) are top billing, but all are in the main cast.

I kinda lost the thread here but naming shows featuring people of Asian descent, I recommend Kim's Convenience. It's a Canadian sitcom about a first/second gen Korean immigrant family. I don't watch many sitcoms but it's really endearing. Also, "Appa" was in The Mandalorian a couple weeks ago.

My only issue with Grey is that it looks like he refused to wear whatever they made for him and he just acted in the jeans and jacket he walked in wearing:lol:

The piercings are very 2020 too, couldn't they have gone with something a bit more alien, like the stuff the Romulans in Picard had?
