Well, I'll give them this much: at least the interviewees here are actually showing some emotion. It's gushing fanboy/fangirl emotion, but still...

If I were Jenkins, I believe my response would be...hmmm...what's legalese for "FUCK No!"?

"Nothingburger of a settlement" indeed, and I love how part of it requires Jenkins to throw his source to the wolves. Really, Alec? The guy you're suing should do your internal security apparatus's work for them? And I'm always amazed that Alec keeps hiring lawyers when he usually struts around like he's doing all the legal work himself - and thus fulfilling the old adage of having a fool for a client. Now that's just his lawyer's problem.

As for the thing about the guidelines being universally ignored, it's pretty much the same thing as saying there was a "fan film arms race." It's Alec and his cheerleaders saying, "Don't look at Axanar! Everybody's doing it!" Even if it's true, it doesn't matter. Alec was not given "guidelines." He was given strict limits concerning what he could and could not do to produce Axanar in a binding legal settlement, and thanks to Jenkins making the settlement a matter of public record we know he's thumbing his nose at it, and has been for ages.

I respectfully disagree, Ms. Rabid Bat Ma'am, at least on the "white people" part. The recent trailer gives more play to non-white actors than anything we've seen come out of the Axanar camp, including Prelude. If the sycophants watched that and are still touting it as "true trek," then "more white people" likely isn't the appeal - at least for most of them.

I'm leaning this way, but it's hard to judge based upon the YT comments.

That said, as a white guy, I find it extremely odd to think its all white people all the time.

Racism is definitely a factor with these people. Sure, they complained about the JJ movies for not "honoring Gene's vision" and all of that stuff, but their hatred of Discovery is on another level. I'm from the American South, so I've witnessed that type of hatred before: it's the hatred that comes from a racist white person who thinks a black person needs to be "put in their place". Once you see it, you can always recognize it.

Then how do you explain why I don't like Discovery, George, given that I'm a Black person and have been all my life?

I'm not saying there is no racism involved. Racism is involved in everything that goes on in an ethnically diverse society. It's unavoidable. What I am saying is, contrary to popular fiction, racism is not the dominant motivation among the part of the fan base that's critical of the show and its contemporaries. It's just that too many of the show's defenders are incapable of accepting the fact that there are people who just think the show sucks, and plenty of those people are non-whites, women and non-sexist males. Those defenders don't want to admit that possibility, so they fall back on the handful of morons who tweet racist things because they think it makes them cool and project their stupidity onto all detractors, because apparently it's the easier narrative for them to believe. It doesn't require any investigation or analysis.

This statement itself is racist and offensive, give me a break! Not everything is based on race and the sooner people realize that, the sooner we can actually live in harmony together. As long as people keep claiming everyone is a racists; unity is never going to happen, IMO.

For what it's worth, "Discovery" sucks because the writing is shit.

See, I like Discovery but don't care if others don't. It's more fun to discuss than just assume people are racist.

There has been quite a bit of sexist and racist criticism of DISCO. That's a fact.

But that doesn't mean that people who don't like DISCO are racist, sexist, or both. There are many reasons to be critical of the show that having nothing to do with any of that or whether it's Tru Trek.

I honestly don't know what the percentages are in terms of what reasons the people who don't like it have for not liking it. That would be in actual fact difficult to measure. Given the sociopolitical climate in the US today, nothing would surprise me. I might be tempted to say that we're talking about vocal minorities, but again: data, what is it?

Could you stop that, That rumour was debunked by CBS like a week after it started spreading.

I have no doubt that fragile white ego plays a part in some folks dislike for Discovery, what that percentage is? Is anybody's guess. For me (white male), I've just found the show underwhelming much of its run, with the writing be tepid and mostly unimaginative.

But it was never debunked by Eaves. Who made the claim and then had to take down his Facebook page. Like it or not, there likely was a 25% different mandate, it had nothing to do with creativity but with licensing. Tough to sell a Discovery-version of the NCC-1701 that was exactly like the original if the licensees (like Eaglemoss) were already selling a version of it.

And in behind-the-scenes books, there's a sketch of the new version of the Enterprise with a handwritten note pointing out a change in the pennants on the engineering section (two stripes instead of three) and explaining it's because of the "25% different" guideline. It's not something that was pulled out of thin air or made up after the fact, we have official, published evidence that it was something that was part of the design requirements.

White, middle aged, straight male here. Love Discovery, especially season 3 so far but isn't this the place where we talk about AXANAR?

He made a statement later saying he misunderstood what the 25% meant.

His original post, he thought that CBS didn’t own the rights to the TOS design, which is why it had to be different.

So there was a "25%" somewhere in all of this. If he misunderstood what it meant, that means it was presented to him by someone in authority.

No it means he misunderstood what someone said to him and he assumed something that wasn't in reality the situation.

No, it's where other mods can just label people who don't like a tv show as racist and sexist. Because reasons.

Have you even bothered watching the trailers? The cast is diverse. I know it's fashionable to hate Axanar here with an anger that would make a Jem Hadar blush but that's no excuse to turn this thread into a microcosm of the ridiculous rhetoric in the general world. There are LOTS of things to criticize about the never ending production and Alec Peters regularly provides fresh fuel for the dumpster fire without needing to tar all those who disagree with you on a TV show as istaphobic. I'd expect better from a forum mod but frankly I've been following this (and the previous thread) too long to say that with any sincerity.
