Having explored the Enterprise sets on the (admittedly very crude) Steam VR TOS set recreation, I never noticed how small the Enterprise sets are. I know TV makes everything look bigger, but wow.

Set design is everything. The TNG bridge is supposed to be the same diameter as the TOS bridge, but look how much roomier it is.

Recently noticed that the third season episodes produced after Bob Justman left the show, reverted back to the second season closing theme music (during the end credits). Maybe somebody's subtle way of wishing that Justman (or others) from the second season regime were still there to make things better?

Hm. I wonder if they preserved that on my beloved clamshell dvds?

I find music variations really interesting.

Does anyone have a good S3 ep example where the bridge background noises are noticably different? I read of that here.

The end credit music in the 3rd season was unaltered on the DVDs. I’ll try to check an episode or two for different bridge sounds. I know they did lay in some first season background effects to make it “surround” in many episodes.

As far as I recall, the DVD and Blu Ray do revert to a previous end credits music about halfway through Season Three.

I have a copy of the 'master' third season bridge sound effect. I'm pretty sure it's accurate on at least a few occasions, namely when Kirk first enters the fake bridge in TMOG, and I *think* the first bridge scene in TI, albeit with season one intercom chatter. I haven't done a big comparison or analysis though. (I could be wrong though.)

There are a fair number of mixes of the bridge b.g. sounds. I have a handful of them.

Not from the series itself, but it took me years to notice that the signage, controls and displays on the Amargosa observatory in Generations are Okudagram-style updates of those from TOS.

I've always heard it as orders or no, which makes perfect sense really! Scotty is saying I'm going to beam you up whether you like it or not because of the dangers of Sarpeidon's sun exploding!

While I have noticed this before I wonder why Spock was making the canister in Spectre of the Gun. Surely it should have been Scotty. I know Spock can do these things but isn't it more in Scotty's line of work to make stuff and Spock design stuff?

Easier to just do it than to tell someone how, and supervise

I know someone who is an aircraft engine maintenance specialist. Doesn’t automatically make them a specialist in everything.

I say, ideally the engineer would design and make the thing after getting his design requirements from the doctor and the scientist. But in show business terms, since Scotty got to play the test dummy scene, they had to give Spock some business to do. At least it was consistent with Spock building the primitive electronic rig in COTEOF.

Best case: Scotty beaming down to build a hardware patch for the pergium reactor in "Devil in the Dark."

Medium case: Spock assisting Scotty with the crude crystals in "Elaan of Troyius." Doohan actually complained about it, saying (in effect) that the Chief Engineer should never need a boss to come down from the bridge and fix stuff for him.

Worst case: Spock and McCoy (!) modifying photon torpedo hardware in Star Trek VI. It was hugely obvious that they were giving Kelley a scene rather than keeping his character in plausible activities.

If that's the case James Doohan must have had a real fit during the filming of ST:TMP. "Elaan of Troyius" wasn't the first time they had Mr. Spock assisting Scotty. Spock was assisting Scotty with the intermix formula in TOS S1 "The Naked Time".

Plus in "Elaan of Troyius", Spock was the one who ran the crystals down to Scotty in Engineering from the bridge. It was hardly like he was just going down there to make sure Scotty did the job right.

That made more sense as it's number crunching and not hands on engineering.

I forgot about TMP. That was not a good script for Scotty's image, along with the first half or so being terrible for Kirk and Spock.

It has some fun moments and is perhaps not among the worst of Season 3.
Plus it was the first appearance (in production order) of the Klingon D7 model, so it gets a lot of pomp
