Yes, I'd assume that V'Draysh refers to a remnant of the Federation and there is a linguist connection.

What is that remnant like? What I'm saying is that I expect there to be some sort of twist when it's revealed. I don't know what that twist will be for sure. I mention one interesting possibility. At the very least, I wouldn't be surprise if the V'Draysh is an antagonist in some form.

If it helps, what he was doing was beyond the capabilities of a replicator. For one he was building a new component without having a working one to scan and copy, merely having experience with a different component with a similar function.

Also it's likely the replicator uses a matter slurry to make objects, rarely (if ever) creating it directly from energy. The programmable matter used here appears not to have to need to change to energy to become a different element, thus making the power needs much lower.

Plus all this capability is in a pair of hand tools and a pile of raw material, not a refrigerator sized machine.

That's what Kurtzman and the company making the tech is calling it.

The writer of Calypso (Michael Chabon) confirmed that was the origin of the word.

Now for the thing I said upthread that reminded me of "Context Is for Kings". The mock-outraged wouldn't have picked this up because they were too busy picking it apart, so I can see things they can't. Because they're too blinded by their hatred -- yes, hatred -- of Michael Burnham.

At the beginning of "Context Is for Kings", Burnham is in danger on her prison ship that's spiraled out of control. She's rescued by a tractor beam from Discovery that rescues her. This is the first time Burnham ever sees Discovery.

At the end of "Far from Home", Discovery is in danger of staying trapped and getting destroy by a sort-of prison they're entombed in with that parasitic ice coverage. They try to break free but the situation is spiraling out of control. Then Discovery is rescued by a tractor beam. This is the first time Discovery sees Burnham in The Future.

The situation is completely reversed. It's a nice parallel.

I'd agree, but the issue is there's a higher standard for acting for the lead. SMG was outacted by Jason Isaacs in the first season, and by Anson Mount in the second. She's always outacted by Doug Jones. And now she seems to be outacted by David Ajala. It's just a problem for a show when the purported lead is continually upstaged by people she shares scenes with frequently.

The escape craft that Craft was on, that Discovery tracker on board was a V'draysh escape pod. It the same design of the fighters that are attacking Discovery in the trailer.

And based on how some people react to Archer they might say that both Jolene Blalock and Connor Trinneer out-acted Scott Bakula.

The scene with the programmable matter where he was building a new transtator was cool but it reminded me of that terrible name "Transformium" for the material they had in one of the transformers movies which could make literally anything out of nothing.

OTOH, Brooks and Stewart can't be touched. Mulgrew too, unless Picardo is in a scene.

Yeah, whatever one thinks of Avery Brooks' acting style the only actor in the DS9 regular cast who could come close was Rene Auberjonois.

    No one out camps Shatner.

More seriously, Nimoy never came across as "camp" to me.

Even though you or anyone else don't agree. I do think they are V'draysh design spacecrafts.

I think it's hilarious that some folks describe Ms Martin-Green's acting as being anything less than stellar.
You really think the Producers and Directors of the show would put up with anything less than "competent".
I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks she's a "bad actor", doesn't really have a clue beyond their own internal "I Could Do Better" EGOs.

One does not get to carry a Multimillion Dollar Production as the STAR, for four or more seasons, by just being adequate.
You can dis the writing of the episodes all you want as that is a judgemental opinion based on personal tastes in entertainment, but saying that the folks in front of the camera who have been doing it for years (and getting paid top dollar) essentially 'suck' is beyond pale.

In actuality, what you're really saying is that you don't like the character, which is fine, but don't blame the actor for that.

I was being nice. Though Shat could really knock it out of the park on under the right circumstances. His delivery of "Let's get the hell out of here." is perfect.
