You are not alone. Another poster also suggested it was Nibiru.

Ah, so she's trying to throw us off the scent.

Detmer... or should I say, Zora!

    :)

(Yes, it would make absolutely no sense, but I saw it on the internet, so it has to be... maybe true.)

Two episodes in, and I love where this show is going. I thought last season wasn't bad, but a bit lackluster - it lost a bit of the edge that the show had in the second half of season one. But this all feels very fresh and exciting.

I do, however, wish the costuming was more interesting. This is so far in the future and people are wearing...dark jackets. It's not that bad, but somewhat boring. Get more creative and fun with it. This isn't just a Disco issue though - I think costuming in television in general - especially genre shows - could be more exciting. It's that trend to have things look "realistic" or "normal" to allegedly bring in casual viewers.

    Also, Saru remains awesome.

I agree about the costuming too.

When they were on Sanctuary Four, Book and all of the rest looked interesting with the long jackets, by itself though not so much. Aditya Sahil looked pretty cool. Nothing about what he wore said 3188, of course, but it still looked good.

It is a hard thing to do though, yeah. A nice mix between "realistic" or "normal" and "fantastic" and "flamboyant" would be much appreciated. And let's see what the rest of the season looks like.

Season 4 I'm expecting a complete redesign of Discovery's uniform. Or even at some point this season, which would make a lot of sense, I think.

Why do people never switch to bright pink after the apocalypse. It's always black and leather

I remember Joseph Kosinski talking about that for Oblivion:

Talk a little bit about the costumes. Both Tron: Legacy and Oblivion have really unique costumes. Talk a little bit about collaborating to come up with that look, and again to come up with stuff we have not seen before.

Kosinski: Right, well the look of Jack Harper’s costume had to fit the world he was living in; the bubble ship, the sky tower, all had to feel like one consistent aesthetic. I wanted it to feel like everything is connected. It has to feel consistent the technology, the palate and the materials. Jack’s suit, you know, we haven’t seen our science fiction hero in a white suit before I don’t think, that’s a unique look. So that certainly was one of the aesthetic challenges that you have to push through an industry that’s used to having heroes in black. Pick any movie all these palates look the same, so having to switch that on its head was one of the early challenges of pushing this aesthetic through, but that’s what makes something look different you’ve got to change the perception around it a little bit. I worked as hard on the design of the costumes as everything else and had a great costume designer to collaborate with on this movie in Marlene Stewart.

I think one of his influences was also Charlton Heston in the original Planet of the Apes.

I like that the doctors on Discovery are in white. Culber and Dr. Tracy Pollard and the rest. It's a really cool looking look. Nice and crisp, and clean.

The audience rating is a wash anyway, it has a low sample size and is not trustworthy because of bots, etc. I only look at the critic rating.

I've been looking forward to the next episode for over 20 years. "What are you talking about?"

In 1999, when DS9 ended, I thought the political situation of the Alpha Quadrant in the 24th Century developed over the course of TNG and DS9 had run its course. It felt like there was a beginning, middle, and end. I thought that once VOY was finished, Star Trek should move into a different century so they could shake things up the same way it was shaken up in 1987. (EDIT: Obviously Picard has shown there's more story to tell in the late-24th and early-25th Century, but we're taking about what I thought back in '99.)

Then, in 2001, they did change the century but I thought -- at the time -- that they went in the wrong direction. I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of a prequel in the 22nd Century. I wanted to go forward. But, at the same time I didn't want more of the 24th Century. So, in my mind, something would probably happen to change things up to make it different. I didn't necessarily think "The Fall of the Federation", just something that would differentiate two time periods.

TOS was my favorite Star Trek series and I happen to like the 23rd Century, so I was okay with DSC taking place there. "Better that than the 24th Century," I thought. But now that DSC has moved to the 32nd Century, and it's clearly not an extension of the 24th Century, it's what I wanted in the first place, after TNG/DS9/VOY.

So this next episode, Discovery reunites with Burnham and different Starfleet people (or what's left of Starfleet) are coming onto Discovery. And the ship is going to become part of the 32nd Century world, instead of strangers. Discovery will be fully in this new "world" and we'll be seeing a lot more of it. And we're learning about The Future from the point of view of a 23rd Century crew. The timeframe of Star Trek that I identified with. So that makes it the perfect combination for me.

Another good combination is that "The Fall of the Federation" isn't completely "The Fall of the Federation." It looks more like it's just down but not out.

I keep thinking that the beginnings of the fall might start in Picard and carry on after that is over.
