I don't really want to spend a lot of time thinking about this, but that could just be a metaphor.

"Coital hooks" sounds like a euphemism for the barbed penis that is a common trait amongst cat species (on Earth), but that would imply that T'Ana has a barbed penis, which I don't think was the intention of the creators, but who knows. Good attention to detail though, by utilizing feline sexual anatomy.

I....don't know what to think of this episode.

On one hand there was a lot of good humour, action and it was an excellent ST season finale. Loved Mariner playing "Boimler", loved Troi facepalming at Riker's version of "engage" loved everything about Peanut Hamper. Loved how that planet from TOS just fell right back into worshiping the computer haha.
Loved how they really tied a lot of stuff from the episodes to show up in the finale.

On the other hand there was a high death toll (which I don't really like) and some stuff makes me a bit worried for season 2. I want Boimler with the others, not on the Titan. I'm worried what they might change about Rutherford now that his memory has been affected (though Tendi seemed pretty optimistic, that was nice) and I'm gonna miss Shax.
And while I don't mind seeing them cameo (it was fun honestly) I don't want season 2 to become "the wacky adventures of Riker and Troi".

Honestly at the point where Shax was dying I was actually waiting for them to reveal it as a dream/simulation of some kind.
I can't even rate it right now because I'm so torn about all this. That doesn't mean I hate the episode, I'm just worried about them changing my favourite Star Trek show too much.

That Riker.. calling red alert after firing phaser and torpedos:lol:

and missed opportunity for Invalidating Trip death by Troi saying "you know that holodeck program is inaccurate right?" "what do you mean?" "That engineer did not really died" :guffaw:

Well Mike said in an interview that Troi isn't in Season 2 at all so there's half your wish lol, and the Cerritos is still there, they're not switching the main focus to the Titan. I imagine the Titan will be something they cut to for a bit until whatever plot point gets Boilmer back on the Cerritos.

He says 'We're still at red alert', he doesn't call for red alert. Trying to distract the crew and Troi from what Mariner just siad.

I was always optimistic for this show, but I NEVER guessed that I would feel it had the best first season of ANY Star Trek series.

This finale might be on my Top Ten All Trek episode list. I can't believe how dense with different stories and feelings and tones this was, yet nothing felt rushed! They told more story more effectively in this one episode than Discovery did in all of their season 2 (and I REALLY LIKE Discovery!)

I also never guessed this show would manage the best space battle in all of streaming Trek to date. And that it would be against Pakleds. PAKLEDS!

So good. I'm going to go watch it for a third time.

These writers are brilliant. Also the actors. This is the best cast animated show I can ever remember watching.

Well, came to say I LOVED IT.
Like even before the 'big cameo' (which had me CHEERING!) I thought it was a stellar episode, I was laughing at the return to Beta-3 and Landru (and the joke about Kirk and Spock in their animated forms!), and then the destruction of the ship at the beginning was really effective. Loved the exocomp sub-plot ("I'm gonna take a pass.") and the battle sequences were genuinely thrilling- the death of Shax was really surprising. But as a long-time fan of the Titan novels it was an absolute *thrill* to see it show up and see Riker and Troi in fighting-fit form. I would sign up to a Titan animated series in a heartbeat.
Howevever despite all the references my favourite joke was when they walked into sickbay and Dr. Katz shouted: "Miaow! Sorry, I mean: get the Captain to the bed!" So funny, and I'll never get enough of Cat Doctor.

    Canon defiled! :wah:

That must be an imposter Riker! Or maybe a Changeling that replaced him (and another one probably replaced Troi!)

    A 10.

(Hell, it would have gotten a 10 from me for the use of the Filmation TAS versions/animated frame of Kirk and Spock they had showing on the Padd when talking about "Return of the Archons")

    Loved:

    - The TOS references (INCLUDING Ransom's "TOS" acronym IN his 24th century conversation...) :vulcan::rommie:

    - The manner in which the crew found out Mariner's secret

    - The crew reactions and all the small references in them.

    - Mariner throughout the episode,
    - The fact they made the $#@! Pakleds DANGEROUS (while showing that collectively they are all still a dumb as a rock)...:guffaw:

    - Rutherford's various "Modes".

    - Yes, like Data is often on TNG..the ExoComps too, are Assholes. :D

    - The WAY they used "Badgey" in this one...perfect.

    - The Bajoran Security chief's death (and what he was doing when the ship blew).

    - This versions of Will Riker and Deanna Troi. The went from stuffed shirts of TNG to (still full of themselves - but these two are fun) Human beings with personality and emotions.

An this particular one did have a definite 'Rick and Morty' tone to it. I wish more of the episodes were like this.

    Yep a definite 10.

I respectfully disagree about it having a "Rick and Morty" tone. I was concerned going into the series that it would be Rick and Morty with a Star Trek overlay. By which I mean throwing as many jokes per minute as possible, no real character development, a lot of lowbrow, absurdist humor. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I watched all of RAM and enjoyed it.

And the first episode or two seemed like it was going in that direction. It even seemed like Mariner was a slightly toned down, non-burping Rick and Boimler was a slightly smarter, older Morty.

But somewhere along the line, the show put the emphasis on Trek first. Yes, they put a lot of jokes and references and such in 20ish minutes, but they also put a lot of other things, things that are more substantive and real.

There wasn't (at least in my book) a sense of tension in all of RAM that was like the Pakleds threatening the crew or taking out the Solvang. There's never been a death in RAM that's as meaningful or touching as that of Shaxs. The characters on RAM haven't been as multidimensional as the ones in this episode.

I actually think Lower Decks will break into double-digit seasons. 10-episode seasons without actors who visibly age. They can get some real mileage out of it.
