I liked this trailer. Nice mix of fun and seriousness. That booker character might be pretty interesting.
Un-geolocked version here: https://amp.cinemablend.com/televis...r-the-federation-and-yes-there-are-explosions Looks like a lot of fun! The visual of the crashed Discovery is something.
Very nice trailer. Can't wait to dive into the new season! Also curious as to how much we'll learn about the big event that causes the collapse of the Federation--probably something that we'll learn about as the season progresses.
Fallen federation, hmmm. Honestly, I've been watching Star Trek this year as a much needed break from the fact that the real world won't ever get that good. Even if the Discovery crew manage to rebuild everything (and clearly the trailer indicates that they intend to be a beacon of hope etc), I just don't think I can watch seeing all those wonderfully optimistic episodes of past shows get torn down. Unless my generally depressive status quo changes, I'm checking out of Discovery. Hope everyone else enjoys the season, but I'm just soooooo not into this plotline. At all.
Just as long as it isn't too drawn out like the mystery of why Spock and Michael were estranged like last season.
I get that, but I'm also realistic about how great civilizations rise and fall. Nothing is truly infallible. That doesn't mean what came before no longer matters just because in hundreds of years it went downhill. That's a very nihilistic viewpoint to take. It always matters, especially when it comes to picking one's self up.
According to this tweet, the collapsed was caused by a cataclysmic event. The Federation didn't fall apart because of internal factors: https://twitter.com/StarTrek/status/1303410896161525760
This worries me. If we have a whole season and then they go back and "fix" things so none of it happened... I will not be a happy bunny.
Even Berman Era Trek hinted the future Federation could collapse because of external influences or attacks or not even exist at all because of the same. This kind of ties in with some future glimpses we've seen of humanity and the Federation from alternate timelines that were avoided or repaired.
