Positive or nagative doesn't enter into it, I just don't need to sort through "tons" of videos giving me, confirming or disputing my opinion. I can just watch things and make up my own mind. Add to that YouTube's algorithm literally rewards conflict, and I want no part of it. Fun music videos? Tech reviews of something I'm thinking of buying? Reunion video podcasts? Trailers? SNL clips or clips from late show monologues? I'll watch the hell out of that. But people yelling at a camera in their dining room for twice as long as the actual thing they are yelling about? Not my cup of tea.
I'm not interested in "people yelling at a camera in their dining room" either, I watch the quality content of which there is plenty and manage to also make up my own mind about something as well. I find different views to be "my cup of tea".
He's nothing like that. His videos are well thought out and not just mindless rambling like those people. He also does some great 3D modelling and fan art. He's also one of the outsourced modellers/designers that STO commissions as well.
What, that's not a true at all. Culber and Stamets got a lot of character development, as have Pike and Saru.
I said side character development. Try and count the male side characters in season 2, you'll find two: Leland and Sarek. And I meant Discovery officer development anyway, of which you'll find none. Maybe they'll finally give Rhys and Bryce something to do in season 3 like they gave Detmer, Owo, Nhan, Airiam, Reno, Number One and Dr Pollard.
Yup. I also like Rhys. These characters have moments and instead of wishing for something else I look for the development happening in the small moments.
Our own Dan Gunther ( @Kertrats47 ) is doing pretty good for himself on YouTube, with about half the subscribers of EC Henry, and he also doesn't post negative videos and is a big new era fan. Certifiably Ingame is another positive YouTuber. Steve Shives, Trekspertise, Junkball, there are loads and loads of Trek video makers who aren't just piling on hate or (as I suspect of Major Grin and RLM) pretending to pile on hate for views. But, negativity beats positivity, I guess, so these voices, and many I've never heard of, get drowned out. But I don't think it's literally a mountain vs. a penny, more like a large hill mostly blocking a smaller hill. If you look at the small hill long enough, you can avoid the large hill. If you watch enough of the "good guys", the "bad ones" won't be recommended to you... as often.
I just don't feel the need to watch Trek videos at all. If I want an opinion on Trek I'll come here for actual discussion.
Agreed. I feel like, in the hour or two I could spend watching one of these, that's another episode of The Umbrella Academy, or Doom Patrol, or Better Call Saul.
To be clear, I recognize that they put forth a lot of effort. I used to enjoy SFDebris quite a bit, until I realized exactly as you state.
Discovery did not win for outstanding drama series last night at the GLAAD Awards but congrats again on the nomination. Just one of many recognitions of the show from last season (wow that was a long time ago). RAMA
I'm glad there is positive stuff out there, though my YouTube time usually goes to stuff like The History Guy, Mark Felton Productions, Biographics and a few other history related things.
The "also" is referring to Henry. Kertrats has half the subscribers of EC Henry, and *also* doesn't post negative videos. I apologize if it wasn't clear enough, but the sentence was only referencing those two Youtubers. I was trying to avoid naming the negative nellies, although I do mention a couple near the end (the couple that I can at least tolerate on the basis of their other work).
