She did? I’ve never heard that before. Do you have a pic or a link?

yeah, it's not mentioned on Memory-Alpha either, and you know how detailed they can be.

I just looked myself. I don't see it either. I could swear I heard someone mention it here on TrekBBS. I'm either remembering wrong or I listened to what someone else said (I can't remember who) without even thinking about it.

On the IMDB Page for "If Memory Serves", it lists the three actors who played Talosians. They were:

    Rob Brownstein as The Keeper
    Dee Pelletier as Talosian #2
Nicole Dickinson (uncredited) as Talosian #3

So my apologies if anyone was misled by my post. That wasn't my intention. I thought Mary Chieffo was the uncredited Talosian. Classify it as I wanted it to be true, so didn't think about it or pursue it any further.

I’d like it if she had been. I thought she did a good job in difficult makeup. Hope they keep using her.

Her make-up was terrible. Hopefully they tone it down a bit and actually allow her to act and emote properly.

I think the sole category where I would give Discovery an exceptional grade is its casting. They really hit it out of the park.

Yeah, agree. But I think the prop work has been pretty great too.

    Seriously?

The casting is the weakest part of the show for me! Terrible cast of unlikeable, bland characters that don't actually talk like real people. Burnham insufferable, Tyler unwatchable, Culber a nothing character, Stamets meh, Tilly alternates between annoying and ok. It doesn't help that the show gives us the bare minimum of development for anyone apart from Burnham. Lorca and Pike good tbf, but then they made Lorca into a moustache twirling villain and Pike's no longer on the show so...

At least Picard gave us more human, likeable characters, thankfully.

Completely agree. Burnham is one of those characters that I identify with in a rather personal way. Hasn't really happened since Spock in TOS and the Kelvin films.

They had a good set of actors, just the story let them down. Especially Martin-Green. Most of the stuff they gave her was cringeworthy.

It could be down to the poor writing, you might be right. It also doesn't help when they fast-forward character development to give us emotional moments that are in no way earned (Airiam, Burnham/Tyler, Burnham/Saru/ Culber/Stamets, Tilly wanting to be a senior officer etc)

No frets. Like some pieces of way-too-interesting-to-be-true fake news, this confusion of reality also emerged out of the distorted husk of a grain of truth. The uncredited actress, Nicole Dickinson, was also Mary Chieffo's stunt double (as well as other background Klingons in 4 other episodes). Hence the source of the confusion.

And, in case anybody else was wondering: In real life, no, the two actresses look nothing alike. Rather different face shapes without 'em Klingon masks!

"Earned"? How do they have to be earned? Either the story, be it one episode or a dozen, moves the viewer or it doesn't. For me the Airiam episode worked. I felt for her and her friends by the the end. The same way I felt for several done and one character in past Trek.

The shot of Michael walking in slow motion under the Starfleet logo looked really polished. Do you think that be in the episode or only used for marketing, like the current flag folding imagery?

Because that's how story-telling works? Emotional moments pay off a lot more if they're earned through past development. It should go without saying that emotional beats hit harder the more invested you are, but Discovery doesn't seem to care about doing the work getting us there, and just telling us to feel for these characters. It's forced and un-earned. The pace of DIS means that characters are a secondary priority to action and plot twists.

EC Henry did a brilliant video talking about this a while back but he seems to have taken it down.

Kind of covered that in the part of my post you didn’t quote.
No idea who EC Henry is and why his opinion matters.

Completely agree! Watching some of the streamed table read the other day reminded how much I like them all. I had my share of problems with both seasons, but the casting ain't one.

I want to know how Robau's death was earned? That and George Kirk's hit me hard. Same with Georgiou and Ariam.

What is wrong with someone wanting to command a starship? Many young people set goals for what they want to accomplish in life. Fuck, it was refreshing that they wrote her to be more than just a Kim/Mayweather paperweight character.

I think, for me, the problem with Airiam is that she felt like such a missed opportunity.
