And "our" Reds closers cain't shut down a game... the Redlegs should be 3-0.

Shut it down--speaking as someone whom went to 17 Opening Days in a row, until the seats started to become excessively priced.

Still awaiting confirmation that there shall be no game.

I have been over "the humming bridge" many a time, and have had real cincy chili on both sides of the river. :)

Others will have to figure out what that means.

But, the hint is the Brooklyn replica, as in the bridge, a.k.a. The prototype.

I do wonder if, even though they'd be playing in those two hotspots, it might have been possible because they could have controlled things better. But there still would have been travel between the various parks throughout the two states, so likely not.

They just need to shut it down already.

And as Timby mentioned on a previous page, as soon as one guy sneaks out of the "bubble" to hit the bars or pick up a hooker, it's game over.

Please, for the love of God and all that is holy, pull the fucking plug, Manfred.

I think we fans need to do our part and not watch any of the games. Don't give them the ratings.

It's a tough decision because the players were all given the option to sit out, and sports going on can be a major stress relief to a lot of people who really need it. But if you are going to do activities that inherently require being close to each other, and you *can't* guarantee near total isolation from anyone else, you're asking for an outbreak.

There's also the issue of, how sure are we *really* that healthy people in their 20s will only get mild infections, and can we really guarantee only the people who chose to take the risk are getting exposed?

I hope at least some form of sports works out in a way that prevents any major outbreaks.

A thought occurred to me before the season started..what are some 60-day baseball records us stat-happy fans might watch out for?

    Some of these are astounding!

    https://www.mlb.com/news/best-60-game-performances-in-mlb-history

    https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...and-other-quirky-numbers-are-2020-benchmarks/

    Here are just a couple:

    Team win-loss record
    Last decade: Dodgers (51-9)
    Two stretches between June 7 - Aug. 19, 2017
These Dodgers got contributions up and down the lineup, whether it was NL Rookie of the Year sensation Cody Bellinger, star shortstop Corey Seager, reclamation project Chris Taylor, the dynamic Yasiel Puig or the steady Justin Turner. The only thing as impressive was the Dodgers’ pitching, which weathered a back injury to Clayton Kershaw in early July thanks to huge years by pitchers like Alex Wood and Rich Hill.

L.A. was on pace for a 116-win season -- and had just acquired Yu Darvish via trade, to top it all off -- before going on an unexpected tailspin in September. But the Dodgers still finished with 104 wins before going on to claim the NL pennant, and 16 holdovers from that club are on Los Angeles’ 2020 roster.
    All-time leaders: 1906 Cubs and 1912 Giants (52-8)
Additional recent notable: 2017 Indians (48-12)

    =======================================

    Home runs
Last decade: 33 -- Giancarlo Stanton
    June 22 - Aug. 29, 2017
Maybe Stanton wasn’t Bonds-ian in 2017, but he was as close as anyone has been. Stanton’s 33 dingers are third most in any 60-game stretch, this past decade or otherwise, behind only Bonds' barrage that kicked off his record-setting 2001 season and Sammy Sosa’s incredible summer of 1998. Big G had 18 four-baggers through June 21, tying him for 13th in the Majors. By the end of this 60-game run, he was 14 clear of everyone else in the field.

Stanton swatted a pair of dingers on Sept. 28 to put him on the doorstep of the historic 60-homer plateau, but he did not go deep in the Marlins’ last three games of the season.
    All-time leader: Barry Bonds (37), April 13, 2001 - June 23, 2001
    Additional recent notable: Sammy Sosa (34), May 22, 1998 - July 31, 1998

...and Lopez, Kluber, and Giles are now on the DL for different injuries. Kluber is out for at least four weeks while the other two have unknown timelines. Remarkably Ohtani is apparently healthy. We'll see if that lasts.

Pitchers are dropping like flies. Verlander is gone for the season, Folty already designated for assignment, probably a few others I'm forgetting. It seems increasingly clear to me that many pitchers were rushed into this season.

    SHUT IT DOWN.

A lot of those "professional" players are basically overgrown children, so yeah, hard to keep them in a bubble even if they went with the bubble idea.

Let's not forget that the people exposing the players to these conditions are billionaires who would not expose their own families to the same conditions.

With the Marlins having to basically suspend their season, I think the healthy players should be allowed to play for another team. That way this season can have a Hunger Games type feel with the remaining healthy/alive players condensed down to two teams playing as many games of the World Series as possible before there aren't enough healthy players left to form a team.

Or, y'know, we could just call the whole thing off and stop using people as cannon fodder for capitalism.
