    Zero-One episode 37

Nihon Hero brought a curious story from Fuwa's actor's youtube channel: he literally let his Shot Riser fall in a river.

I'm not liking where Gai is supposed to be heading
He's supposed to do a heel turn very soon and yet he's plotting to cause chaos by demonstrating the effectiveness of the raidrisers against uncontrollable zaispec related incidents.

Although I shouldn't be surprised. The same writer that did "Ex-Aid" is crafting the same situation in Zero-One

List of Gai’s crimes as recorded by Siesta.

lol at "age spoofing" and "buying expensive tea"

This episode definitely felt like a turning point to get set for the final arc(no pun intended )by having the Vice President join Aruto and Yua making up for her mistakes. Also Aruto being scared of what humagear can do if they surpass humans

What I love about KR is how the characters go on journeys and often end up in very different places from where they started. I should've known the vice presidents would eventually come around to Aruto's side and redeem themselves. It was nice to see. And of course it comes at the point where even Aruto is starting to question his love of AI, so there's a role reversal for them both.

Ark can't seem to make up its mind whether to use Horobi or Jin as its primary host. But I guess it's sticking to Jin because he's the one who'd rebel if it left his will free. I'm not sure if any of the four are really thinking for themselves, though.

Why am I not surprised? They sold Eiji's underpants from OOO's before.

The ZAIA underwear is available for purchase as well

I heard this is a reliable source but this could big news if it turns out to be true

    Grains of salt

Fans are bringing up various examples that this was coming for awhile

The 3 year deal, the canceling of Sentai DVDs, the comments by people in the know.

What if Hasbro wants to adapt the comic book series? Imagine a cartoon series drawn like the comics?

I remember way back in the '90s, when MMPR season 2 started using more original footage and less recycled Sentai footage (and before I knew anything about Sentai beyond the name), I thought "Good, maybe in time they'll stop using old footage and make a completely original show." Now, though, I find it almost inconceivable. I've gotten used to thinking of Super Sentai as the real thing and PR as the (usually) watered-down imitation.

Although I guess it might be interesting to see what Hasbro would do if it were creating fully original Sentai-style action/FX footage. Would they keep the stuntmen-in-suits style or go pure CGI? And would they keep creating new teams/series every couple of years or go back to the "Angel Grove era" approach of making it a single open-ended series?

My latest original story on my Patreon page has just gone up, and it's an affectionate parody of Super Sentai/Power Rangers and a particular trope that's always bugged me. It's available for subscribers at the $10 level and up:

I watched Jetman episode 8, The Laughing Diamond on Thursday. This one was pretty good, I liked that Kaori was the one who figured out to save Ako, and the two of them showing up to help the guys was a nice little heroic moment for them.

Minor spoiler for that two-parter coming up in a few hours

The name “Thouser” is inspired by a toy robot dog produced by Hiden Intelligence that Gai loves.

This is probably when Gai get's his redemption

This is cool. Apparently the Heisei Generations Forever movie caught the attention of James Gunn and twitter. He's a fan too!

    Kiramager episode 13

Not that often we see someone get killed in sentai so early. I do remember the 2nd episode of Gaoranger having the Wire Org crush someone in their car

That was a fun episode. A Little Shop of Horrors-esque MotW leads to Takamichi proving his worth, and filling in his backstory.

This is definitely an after covid episode. Tametomo's hair is longer and wavier than before. It's a different shade of blond too. His eyebrows are lighter too. Juuru seems to have longer hair too, but they look like they cut the others to be in line.

The group were also standing apart and they used camera angles to make them look closer. Honestly if I wasn't looking for it, I wouldn't have noticed it. I think the only time they were within like 3-4 feet of each other was when Juuru talked to Takemichi right after he appeared in the base, and even then it could've just been the camera angle.

Oh, I didn't notice any of that.

I did, however, notice that the two civilians Takemichi rescued in the first fight addressed each other as "Kohtaro" and "Minami," a nod to the lead character of Kamen Rider Black/Black RX. Maybe a subtle hint to the revelation that Takemichi is from the Showa Era?

I wondered at first if the reason Takemichi needs to pursue a treasure is because the Monstone within him is acting up and threatening to take him over if he doesn't find the means to neutralize it. But after the confrontation with Garza, it seemed that Garza said or did something to him that drove him to begin this quest, and that's also why he pulled his strike against Garza at the last second.

    Zero-One episode 38

    PRESENTED BY SONY!

Here we go. Gai's redemption arc begins. We learn where he got his silly motto of "1000%" everything and why he chose the name "Thouser" for his Kamen Rider persona. I think he get's off the hook too quickly. The guy did alot of cruel things.

I thought the humor was just the right balance. Not too slapstick.

Bike action in a Kamen Rider series? Am I having a stroke?

Sony. You almost made me want to get a robo dog. I lol'd at the dog arriving like Izu did way back in the early 20's

Interesting to look at Thouser's data on Gai

We've seen worse villains get redeemed in this franchise.

It was interesting, though, that it was Satellite Zea's spontaneous choice to create the new Thouser pet for Gai. Zea, like Ark, was able to predict human responses, but instead of computing how to defeat and destroy them, she computes how to help them. Which I guess is what Ai-chan is doing too, saying the right things and asking the right questions to help people work through their issues.

It was nice to see the AIMS men reaffirming their support for Yaiba, though it would've carried more weight if they were more familiar characters who had more history with Yaiba. Apparently they previously appeared in 30-31, but that was it. Also, I was hoping to see some payoff with Vulcan & Valkyrie joining the fight against Ark, but I guess that's for next week.

So this thing in Zero-One with Amatsu Gai. It's really, really sudden. But oddly not that poorly executed given how sudden it is?

    But...

Given that Ark-One is coming, it sure looks like they are setting up Gai as the host for that form. Having him suddenly find his old conscience, and come around on AI and Humagear technology just in time for him to lose his body and free will to the Ark and become the final villain. It's not a done deal yet, obviously. But I will be genuinely surprised if that isn't the angle in play here.

Interestingly, however, is what this may also suggest for the coming Zero-Two final form for Aruto. If Ark-Zero is just the driver, or the driver on a Humagear. And if Ark-One is the driver on a human host. And Zero-One has always been the driver used by a human. Then what is Zero-Two? Since we saw the first images of it I've been struck by the red additions, which are coincidentally the exact same color as Jin's Burning Falcon armor. Except maybe not a coincidence at all.

I suspect Zero-Two may be Aruto's form when he has both the belt, and fuses in some way with Jin. The driver, a human, AND a Humagear. The most likely case is that Jin doesn't survive being Ark-Zero's host for too much longer, or is killed by Ark-One shortly after the debut. And Jin's data is used to create either the new add on device for the Zero-One driver or the new key that is used for Zero-Two. But you could manage the same effect with some kind of literal physical merger, a la W or Zi-O Trinity. I'll be curious to see if I'm right on that one, or if it's just a case of the design department really liking that red color this year.

Noticed that Ark-One's chest design resembles a Zaia Spec too.

Supposedly this is the toy listing for "Kamen Rider Saber"

The list mentions 7 riders in the 1st quarter(3 months) toy schedule.

    - Rider No. 1, 2, 3 Henshin Belt (Dragon / Fire - Right) - 6980 Yen
    - Rider No. 1, 2, 3 Henshin Belt (Dragon / Fire - Right) & Lion Water Crest Set - 9780 Yên
    - Rider No.4 - Henshin Ken (Genbu Item) (Eng: Black Tortoise)

    - Rider No.5 - Henshin Ken (Sarutobi Sasuke)
    - Rider No.6 - Henshin Ken (Hansel)
    - Rider No.7 - Henshin Belt (Dark Dragon)
    - Rider thứ 7 - Henshin Belt (Zaaku Dragon) + Power Up Item Za-O (Zaaku = Evil, Za-O = Evil king)
    - Narikiri Sequence Dragon & Lion (Weapon)
Lion Item (Water - Middle) + Water Crest Set
    - Aladdin Item (Thunder - Right) + Thunder Crest Set
    - Holder Set + Zaaku Item
    - Rider No.5 - 6 Kyoutsu Kani Belt & Kobuta Item (Kyoutsu Kani = common simplicity, Kobuta = there little pigs)
    - Peter Pan Item (water - left)
    - Harinezumi Item (thunder - middle) (hedgehog)
    - Washi Item (fire - right) (eagle)
    - Pegasus Item (water - right)
    - Saiyuki Item (fire - left) (journey to the west)
    - Cerberus Item (thunder - right)

So for fairy tales we have

    -Aladdin
    -Peter Pan
    -Journey to the West

So far they've got the middle east, western and eastern Asia sides covered.

Saber's head is supposed to look like an open book(Think Kamen Rider Diend) with a sword in the middle of the head.

The helmet is also supposed to look like a Knights visor(Think Kamen Rider Knight and Ryuusoulger) with the compound eyes behind it

Saber’s coloration utilizes 3 colors, making him resemble Cyclone Joker Xtreme. (Not those colors though.)

The person who claims to have Saber’s suit and has given detailed descriptions of the suit on Tokunation says that he has seen Saber’s Driver and leaves this description below. Of course, take it with a grind of salt.

“The book item that's open appears to have art on both the left and right side of the spine. *from the front view* Right side shows a man reading a book while the left seems to be a depiction of the Rider not unlike the Gaim belts. Sorry for the crude drawing.

Sounds like they're following up the high-tech, sci-fi concepts of Zero-One with something more rooted in fantasy and folklore. I wonder who the head writer will be.

Kiramager this week felt like a ToQger homage, with a train-based Jamenshi trying to plunge part of the city into permanent darkness. Yet that climactic move with the boulder to block the smokestack was evidently an homage to the Gorenger Storm/Gorenger Hurricane and similar finishers by various Showa teams. Fitting for an episode about Takamichi learning the Power of Teamwork.

We're starting to see civilian characters showing up with facemasks now. That really isn't unusual for Japan, since they've been a routinely mask-wearing culture for a long time, hence their fairly low infection rate. What's surprising, really, is that we so rarely see that everyday reality reflected in Japanese film/TV. I guess that's changing now.

^I too noticed the Toqger homage with SL Jamen saying "Please stand behind the white line" and "Full speed ahead!"

I thought the bath house scene was a clever social distancing technique

Huh, usually when there's a virus spreading around the world in a toku show, the heroes have to put a stop to it. As it turns out, completely unconnected, and of course something the script writers couldn't plan around, but which comes up in background even if the heroes aren't supposed to focus on it.

This is the second covid episode most likely but the first with civilians.

Iit's good for kids to start seeing masks on TV to help normalize it until a vaccine is done and mass available.

When a bit reality seeps into shows like this it does bring you down a bit. :(

    Preview of tomorrows episode
